I sold an item on ebay that I can't find to ship. Yes, stupid to list it when I didn't have it in hand, but too late for that now. I've emailed ebay about a dozen times asking them how to cancel a sale and I've NEVER gotten a reply out of them that addresses my question. The buyer has paid, but I've not accepted the payment since I can't find the item to ship. All ebay keeps saying is "We can see you've not accepted the payment...so accept the payment". But I don't WANT to accept the payment since I can't ship the item. Has this ever happened to you. Do you know how to cancel a sale? HELP!!!!

Have you contacted the buyer? I am sure you have. I know when I ordered something that later sounded like a scam because they stopped the auction and just claimed me to be the winner I never sent the payment and later I got a response that it was a scam. I dunno I have never sold anything on ebay. But the buyer should be able to understand crap happens you know? As long as the payment hasnt gone thru from the buyer and he or she isnt out of the money and you speak to the buyer then I wouldn't worry what ebay says.

Actually the buyer has been VERY nice about it (probably nicer than I would be ). But I just was wanting to cancel the sale. I'm wondering if ebay isn't helping me cancel because they don't want to be out the commission? (It's a fairly expensive item). Will I still have to pay the fees even if I don't get paid? I'm an idiot. What can I say??!?!?!?

You aren't an idiot! I didn't even know that you have to pay to sell something and I also didn't know they get Commission either. Lol

Have you tried the community boards on ebay? If you don't want to post, you can search by keyword and possibly find somone that posted about a situation similar to yours and what folks suggested they do.

If the auction is over, you don't need to cancel the sale. Just email the buyer, tell them what you did, and thats it. I've done it too!! Felt likeSUCH a jerk! I put up for auction an item that I forgot I already sold to someone else on the boards. LOL they paid, I refunded thier payment with HUGE apologies about what a dork I was and left it at that. I still paid .40 for the listing and got charged a FVF, but I did't care. It was worth protecting my perfect feedback to avoid a bigger mess.

So I could just accept her payment and then refund it? How do I do that? That might be the easiest. The item was $250 so I'd have to pay quite a bit of fees, but at this point I don't care. I just want to stop worrying about it.

No you don't even need to accept payment. Go to your seller's page and right next to the ended auction. there should be a section about payment I think its a money sign. There is a drop down bar and select 'mark as paid'. Then you are done.
