I usually never buy things on e-bay. A few weeks ago I was on there because hubby likes a specific brand and model of luggage. He travels so much, he needs something that will hold up. His current suitcase has over 100,000 miles on it! The problem is, it will cost approximately $600 to replace it - ouch! So I went on e-bay to see if I could find last year's model for cheaper. I did. I even bought two.

So, when I heard about the e-bay boycot I figured it wouldn't effect me. Then yesterday I saw a message that said the boycot was really starting to impact e-bay business. I went to the site just to see if there was any mention of it. While there I remembered that I check occassionally for a specific item that is very difficult to get. I have seriously been looking for this item for years and either couldn't find it or could only find it for a ridiculously expensive price. Well, sure enough, I found it on e-bay and the price was right. I bought it and blew the boycot.

I'm just a guilty as you, DS's cell phone broke yesterday and I bought him a new one on ebay last night. I know there is a boycott but there is no way I was paying the price AT&T wanted for it and then paying their stupid activation fee when all they are doing is putting our sims card in the new phone.

I may be wrong but I thought it was a boycott by sellers about the increase in fees (Which will just be passed on to the buyer anyway) and something about a change in feedback system (I think they are only doing feedback on the seller, not the buyer)

I wouldn't feel bad at all about buying something if you find a good deal, especially with the way prices are now.

People are boycotting because a couple weeks ago, Ebay announced some changes. They were hyping a reduction in listing fees and now gallery will be free of charge. Sounds great, right? Wrong, while they were hyping the listing fee reduction and the free gallery picture, they were hiding the fact that they were increasing the final value fees. The 5 cent reduction in listing fees and the free 35 cent gallery picture doesn't equal the full 2% increase in final value fees on all items. Plus the higher the item sells for the more of an increase there will be. So you can list that item for 99 cents but if it sells for $100, it is still going to cost you an additional $2-3.

The even bigger issue is that ebay also made changes to their feedback program. Every feedback will now count, whereas multiple purchases from one buyer only counted as 1 feedback before. Sellers can no longer leave negative or neutral feedback for buyers. Which means that if a buyer gets mad about anything, then they can buy 15 of your items and leave 15 negative feedbacks and everyone of them will count against you.

Also, If you buy on Ebay, you will have noticed the star ratings on feedback. The higher the stars you have, especially regarding shipping speed and rates, the higher your item will appear in the searches. Now when you go to Ebay, it automatically searches for "best match". I personally hate that because I want , ending soonest. They are making it harder on individuals to sell and make money. They offered a discount to powersellers, but from what I have heard is that out of the top 100 powersellers on Ebay, only 7 qualify for the discounts. Therefore the discounts are too difficult to achieve. The boycott is supposed to last until the 25th.

Yeah, I tried to contact a seller of one of the suitcases I bought - and paid for - for hubby and the response I got back was that they weren't replying until after 02/24! I bought the other suitcase a few days later and that seller has already confirmed that my paypal payment went through and gave me a UPS tracking number. The seller of the first suitcase isn't doing anything. I'm thinking of leaving negative feedback.

I had no idea that there was a boycott. Crankymom, You did an awesome job on explaining what is going on!
Cookie2, I would leave negative feedback. I mean, common! They are the ones that are selling the product and should be available to answer questions or concerns! I think the seller was afraid that you would want to cancel.
