I recieved a spoof e-mail tonight that looked like a question for one of my items. I did not notice it until it was too late and had to change all my stuff. Be very careful if answering questions from your inbox links....

That's scary...would you mind giving us more details on what the format of the email was so we can all keep an eye out for it?

Thanks!

This e-mail looked just like the ones you recieve for questions. Asking, which the question was a little odd, but I get those all the time. Is this item still for sale, if so I am online and I can pay right now. My auction was ending last night and it was actually hubby that clicked on it and then realized what he did. If you use the link, look at the webpage address before logging in. If it is not an ebay webpage, DO NOT LOG IN. My suggestion to everyone is to just go to the ebay webpage and log in to see if the question is in your My Ebay if not, delete it and report it. We let ebay know, but I am sure there are more out there. If you do happen to log in to one. Change your ebay and paypal password immediately. I just wanted to share so no one else gets burned. LMK if you need anymore info...

This happen to a friend of mine. THey stole her PW and listed alot of high dollar items. Like jet skies cars and other things. be careful, We are pretty sure that they had her pw for paypal as well. They was gonna get the cash and then run with it leaving her stuck. they all had bids on the items up in 1000 price range.

I get these emails ALL the time. At least a couple of times a week. And I get them from "PayPal" also. If it is truly from Ebay it will show up in your "My Ebay" section. If not, delete it and report it to Ebay. Also, never give any information unless the website address starts off with https:// ... true Ebay requests always have that. I always check that even when I sign in to Ebay. I learned the hard way - had to change everything!

I have added spoof@ebay.com & spoof@paypal.com to my address book because I get so many of these. Neither will ask you to click a link in an email, If you get a real message from paypal or ebay, it will ask you to log in to your account (via internet, not a clickable link in an email) I bet I forward about 5 or 10 of these a month. You will then get an email back from ebay or paypal confirming that they were fake. But I make sure to report each one, do my little part in helping track down the crooks.

That is exactly what I was going to say!! I have them both in my address book, too. ALWAYS go to the actual site to see if you have a message or an email sent.

I get these all the time - I usually just go to my Ebay account and see if I have any messages there because they would also be in my account there.

I have yahoo email and I find alot of those spoof emails go right into my bulk mailbox. This is a clear indicator that the emails are fake.

Another thing ebay and paypal will tell you, (although these new hackers and spammers are getting clever!) is that they will not send an email to 'Dear paypal member' if there is a problem, it will be addressed to your full name that is listed on the acct.

Dh gets paypal emails all the time and he doesn't even have a paypal acct.
