Someone tapped into my ebay account and stole my credit card information. It's pretty much all I use that credit card for, and whoever stole it charged it up driving from California to Las Vegas. Hope they are having fun.

I have also been using echeck payments too, but nothing has happened on my checking account yet. I will keep watching.

Do I need to close out this account? What about my paypal account? Has this happened to anyone else - I have emailed ebay and paypal, but I just wanted advice from ebayers. I am not really a seller - I've only sold a few things, I do buy occasionally, but only have like 75 ratings - it wouldn't be a total loss to start over or anything.

Thanks!

Did you contact your credit card company? Also put a fraud alert at all 3 credit rating places TransUnion, Experion and ?. Also I think you suppose to file a police report but becasue it was done over the internet I don't know if you can. Definately call your cc company they should be able to help you.

So sorry this happened to you.

Definately call your credit card company. You don't need to "close" the account per se, but you need to close out the card number that was stolen. Your credit card company will issue you a new number and the old one won't work anymore.

You also shouldn't be responsible for fraudulent charges if you call your cc company within a certain amt of time, which I'm sure you already did.

You shouldn't need to close your ebay account, you can change the cc number you have 'on file' with them with the new number you get from cc company. Same for paypal.

Do you know how they got a hold of your number in the first place? You said they 'tapped into' your ebay account...how were they able to do that?

usually credit card companies will contact you if unusual activity occours with your card.

On and the other credit rating place is Equifax.

Oh also...be sure to change your password on your ebay account and paypal account, just to be safe. Use a combination of numbers and letters and don't make it obvious. You probably know that though already.

I've found eBay to be very helpful, when I've emailed them with questions over the years, they've responded quickly and efficiently. I hope the same for you!

I would call your credit card company and change all passwords on your ebay & paypal accounts. That is awful!

The credit card company is how I found out that this happened. They called this morning at 8:30 - the charges were made yesterday. I'm pretty impressed with the company for getting to me so quickly.

I had gotten some weird emails marked "payment dispute" from ebay and clicked on it - not even thinking. I had bought a few things recently and everything went fine. I just wasn't thinking. I think that was Monday.

Yesterday, I got an email from ebay (it actually was, since it was in myebay section) that my account may have been compromised and I should change passwords immediately. I had already changed them after I figured out that wasn't a real email Monday (and emailed it to ebay) but I changed them again (ebay and paypal) this morning just for good measure. DH is freaking out because he hate hate hates debit cards and is terrified that someone is going to wipe out our checking account.

His identity was stolen a few years ago - the theif filed INCOME TAXES in his name, got an ID - it was awful. We found out about it first from Chase Bank - they called because the credit card application looked fishy. Very scary and has pretty much screwed us with IRS - we have to jump through multiple loops just to file our return.

Anyway - thanks for the advice. I guess I won't close out the account.

The same thing happened to me, except I saw it on my online statement and they weren't so noticable with their spending. They signed up for an "adult" site while I was out of town on vacation...I got it back, but it freaked me out that it was on my debit card.
