Christmas is quickly approaching and how many times have you said, "I really need to list some stuff on Ebay so I may some money for Christmas"?
Now is the time, if you wait much longer it will be too late. So in order to get all of us ready, I am setting up an Ebay Challenge. Follow my lead and you will have everything listed in time for Christmas and you will have some pocket change to help pay for your gifts. The challenge part of this is lets see who makes the most money, has the highest selling item, the strangest item, oldest item, etc.... Set a goal and place it in this thread, my goal is $2000.00 for a new computer and a $1000.00 downpayment on a newer car. Dell now takes paypal so I will pay for it strictly from ebay money. I know most of you won't be doing this on as large a scale as I will but the same principles apply.
Challenge Week 1, Day 1 Sunday.
Get it together, get everything you plan on listing on Ebay together in one place. Separate out any coats and Christmas dresses. These need to be listed first. Just pull them out right now, we will start sorting everything tomorrow. Get at least 3 items listed today. Take lots of pictures and use a listing service such as Auctiva to get lots of pictures on the listings for free. There are a few more out there that charge, I personally use inkfrog because Auctiva is too slow. But for someone that is just selling a few items a day, it is a good service to use. If you want to use a pay service because it is faster, wait until November 10th, then sign up for a free month and list everything in the next 30 days.
Day 2 Monday, Feels good to have a few items listed doesn't it? Now comes the harder part. Lets start sorting the rest of it. Take out any items that are new in box, mint in box, new with tags and new without tags. Set these aside. These will be listed the week after Thanksgiving. Sort the used clothing and items by size and type. You need to decide if you are going to sell them as a lot or individually. My suggestion is top name brands, sell separate as one outfit, other brands sell as a lot. Pictures, Pictures, Pictures, need I say more? Get at least 3 items listed today.
Day 3 Tuesday, You have all of these things sorted in piles, get them together in the lots that you intend to list. Place them in bins according to lots/sizes. You may want to pull out all the plastic grocery bags and use them to keep your lots together. I fold the shirts inside the bottoms and put them on a bookshelf. List at least 3 more items today. Make sure you post on Ebay Tuesday!
Day 4 Wednesday, Hopefully you have something selling now. If not, don't be discouraged, a lot of things sell at the very end. Today you need to do an assessment of your shipping supplies. If you don't have enough shipping supplies you need to get them. If you plan on shipping via priority mail. You can pick up a few boxes and tyvek mailers at the post office to get you started. But to have enough for the next month, go to the USPS website and order boxes and tyvek mailers so you don't have to run out each week. If you need other small boxes, you can try stores like Walmart or the dollar tree. Using non priority mail boxes will save you some money but are harder to come by. List 3 more items today.
Day 5, Start taking pictures for the weekend. Get all of the pictures loaded so you won't have to worry about it this weekend. Check out your local freecycle group for shipping supplies. This time of year, a lot of people are giving away bubble wrap, boxes and packing peanuts. List at least 3 things today.
Day 6, Saturday. Spend the day with your family. If you have some free time, list at least 5 things but schedule them for Sunday. Saturdays are the slowest day on Ebay. Sundays are the busiest.
Day 7, The week is over, you have items ending today. Any that are selling right now, go ahead and box them up. Just make sure you label them, I usually tape them up and write where I put the labels over the writing. Things are ending now, so you need to make sure that you replace the items ending with new items. Today's goal, list at least 3 more items than you did last Sunday.
