That is so wrong. I would email the person and explain to them, that usually, if you are not happy with a purchase, its is customary to let the seller know FIRST so they can make it right. Explain you would have made it right given the chance.
You can also respond to the negative. Say someting like, Buyer unhappy, but never emailed me for refund or something to that effect, just so that future buyers know you are willing to work with them.
