Two years ago, our children and I came up with the idea of making 'memory stones' (for the garden/path to Dad's toolshed) for Father's Day with each child's handprint, name, date, and some sort of personalized decoration. They're inexpensive, with easy to follow directions on the back of the store bought package. Cheaper yet, buy the decorations at a craft store and hardware stores have the quick drying cement for under $5. We used flowerpot base dishes to pour the stone in, decorating it quickly before it dries, especially if it's hot outside. My husband loved these permanent markers of our children's affection for their Daddy, and the kids get a kick out of measuring their hands now against the size of their prints from back then.
