you can easily find them for less than $600, Just check out the weekly ads, you can get yourself a good Toshiba for about $500

I bought a great one at Staples with rebates came to $450 and got a printer rebate combined with it so the printer was free after I got the rebate for printer back. it is a Compaq. I got mine just a month ago. The store was out so they went online to Staples.com and had it shipped to me but paid at the store so I could get the printer.

I would be really careful if you do buy one from Wal-Mart...they take out some of the memory chips to make them cheaper......and then resell the chips for more. One of our IT guys that are on staff told me that...my mom is looking to buy one and he said that the best kind to get was HP or Toshiba. I have a Toshiba and I LOVE IT!!!

I bought a Compaq F730 at Office Depot for $449.

After watching prices for a few months, we found that Wal Mart, Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples and Dell regularly put a laptop on sale for $400-$500.

We did go to Wal Mart when they first opened a couple of times when they had advertised laptop specials, but they were already sold out (they are notorious for only have a few or even none of advertised things)

We also went to Best Buy to buy one at 8am on the first day of a sale. They said they had none left and then said they had one that a customer had changed their mind and had a $100 preloaded software in it (I discovered this is also a common Best Buy ploy)

The following week Office Depot had one on sale, and my husband went down the first morning and had missed the ones on hand. The salesman gave him his card and told him to phone Monday to see if more had come in. None had, and he said to call Wednesday when the next deliveries would be and there was one and the fellow held it long enough to get there. It is a dual core and has a better graphics than the one we couldn't get at Worst Buy.
