On the first Monday of every month, for breakfast, I go throught the drive-thru. When I pay for my meal, I tell the cashier that I want to pay for the car behind me also. The cashiers are always a little shocked & say what a nice thing it is. The cashiers always tell me the balance & I just pay. I had someone do this for me years ago & it really impressed me. I was just so stunned that a total stranger could be so nice to someone they didn't even know. And, it happened to fall on a day that had been just so terrible for me. It really brightened my day. That day has stuck w/ me ever since & I have felt so good about doing tis for others. You never know what it might mean to the person behind you!!

That is really nice! I sat near the cash register at Pizza Hut one time this guy came in for carry out and he looked around the room and told the waitress that he was going to pay for that table -- and pointed to table with a mom and her daughter. I thought that was so nice of him. The waitress went over and told the girls after he left and they were so happy and thankful and wanted to know his name - the waitress said he doesn't like people to know, he just does it once a week he comes in and picks a random table and pays for their lunch. So nice of him... nice of you too!

This is always a great suggestion. I have a friend that will pay the toll for the person behind her in line. And she laughs about it after because her car is a piece of crap, and the person behind her is always in an expensive car. But Its always a nice gesture!

I've never heard of that, but did have an experience on which we went on vacation a few years back and there was bad weather so we stopped at a restaurant to grab a bite to eat. Well our bill was about $20 and when we ran our credit card that card machine was down. My dh ran to a few banks that were around, but the whole system was down. After staying at the restaurant for what had to be about thirty minutes a lady came up and asked the cashier how much and she paid for it. I was really irritated that the restaurant wouldn't let us give them our credit card information to run later when the system was back up since it wasn't our fault that it was down and we were on vacation I don't like driving with cash on me. We offered to get the lady's address and mail her the money, but she refused to give it to us. I was shocked that someone would help out like that nowadays. I think that is a wonderful idea.

Two years ago on Memorial day weekend I was giving a friend who is in the Navy a tour of Manhattan. My friend was required to be in full uniform, he was not pleased about this but complied. Everywhere we went that day he was approached and thanked for his service to the country. There were many people who spoke broken English, and many children. We ate out 3 times a day the 3 days we were in the city, at least once each day a stranger paid our bill with a message of thanks relayed by the waitress. We never got to meet thse people or thank them because they had already left. We were so touched!

I LOVE this idea....I will have to do this some time! I think it's so wonderful and it really makes me feel special when a complete stranger performs such a generous act with no strings attached!!
