The men and women in this country who serve in our military forces deserve the recognition for their sacrifice. If you over hear someone say they are in the military, don't be shy, extend your hand and thank them, or hug them, or simply say "thank you". They deserve that respect and that acknowledgement...as do their families. That small moment in time for you, means mountains to them and inspires them to do their job even better. You serve as a reminder to them to do their job well.

Other ways you can support your troops:

Participate in veteran's or base fund raisers

Buy pre paid long distance phone cards and mail them to the soliders, sailors, airmen, marines, reserves, guardsmen, etc who are away from their families

Reach out to your local military families who have deployed family members. Offer to make a meal, mow their lawn, run some errands, babysit, playdates, home repairs, etc. Keep in constant contact with them ~ it's hard to ask for help.

When you hear that some servicemembers are expected home, rally up some friends from playgroups, MOMS Clubs, mother groups, church groups and greet them at the airport! Give them that warm home coming they deserve...show them you are greatful and thankful for their service!

Tie yellow ribbons on your trees

Wear your bumper stickers proudly

Send a care package to someone's brother, aunt, niece, sister, father, mother, uncle. Let them know that you care.

our site www.soldierassist.com matches people who want to support soldiers with soldiers who dont have family or want pen pals, we are non profit and everything we receive goes to our soldiers, currently we personally support 12, with boxes etc each month, any samples I get off the mommysavers freebie site goes to them

When I got deployed in 2003 and then again in 2005 I was allways approached by civilians saying thanks.. And it really made me even more proud to know that I am helping everyone continue to live in Freedom. Its a great feeling but its also a great committment we make. Just yesterday I was on my way home from my monthly duty, and still in uniform. Had to stop and get gas, and while pumping gas, a little girl said "mommy, i did not women could be army to" I just smiled, she then came up to me and hugged my legs.. I told her "quess what!! I am a mommy to, and my son loves his army mommy" she just smiled!!! Her mom was really nice, and said thanks.. I think its just that feeling that makes me realize how much I do for America.
