I just read an article in the April edition of Good Housekeeping. This would be such a great Pay it Forward act for moms who could produce extra breast milk for another baby in need and the new mom who couldnt nurse. Here is one example:
A mother who couldn't nurse baby was severely allergic to the cows milk in formula. Nothing seemed to work, not even a soy based version and the baby (Natalie) was growing thinnir. If she ddint improve, her dr warned, shed have to have a feeding ube inserted. Just in time her mom heard about breast-milk banks and quickly connected with a facility not far from the familys Lousivelle home. 2 weeks after Natalie started on donor milk, her condition improved dramatically.Today at 12 months, shes still on breast milk. "it saved my babys life," says her mom Joely. This milk is the best gift she could of gotten.
The Human Milk Banking Association of North America ssets health standards for 10 banks n the US and 1 in Canada. These baniks supply milk to hospitals in more than 80 ciities, and in some cases, directly to families. To learn more, visit the orgaznizations web site hmbana.org
Per the article moms who donate to milk banks feel enriched by the expierence
