I recently read to ds' class during Dr. Seuss week. With the exception of when I read to ds, I don't think I've ever had a better audience! DS asked for How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and I was a bit afraid of using it, as of course, it's out of season. The kids all knew the story, laughed along, and I think they really enjoyed it.

Reading to the elderly, in the hospital or in a nursing home is such a treat for all. Many can no longer see well enough to read, and it's hard to stay up on things. They especially love Readers Digest. Short enough to read in one sitting, long enough to have company for awhile. Even if they drift off, they often enjoy your voice as they doze.
