Not sure where to put this (please move it if needed). It's not technically a recall, but is close to one.

Could be seen as a good deal if you are willing/ready to part with your Baby E video collection (at least up to 4 of the videos):

CCFC Victory: Disney Offers Refunds on Baby Einstein Videos

CCFC’s ongoing campaign to stop the false and deceptive marketing of baby videos has had an important success. We’ve persuaded the Walt Disney Company to offer a full refund to anyone who purchased a Baby Einstein DVD in the last five years. The refund is only available for a limited time, so please help us spread the word now.

As a result of our 2006 Federal Trade Commission complaint, Disney stopped claiming that Baby Einstein videos were educational for infants, but the company made no move to compensate parents who purchased them.

We thought parents deserved better. So, with help from CCFC members like you, we kept the pressure on until Disney agreed to reimburse Baby Einstein customers.

The refund offer is a wonderful victory for families and anyone who cares about children. Recent research shows that screen time is not educational for babies. Now parents who purchased Baby Einstein DVDs, mistakenly believing the videos would make their babies smarter, can recoup their money.

You can help by spreading the word. Letting friends and family members know about the refund will help parents get their money back – it’s also the perfect way to start a conversation about babies, marketing, and screen media. After all, a screen-free babyhood is a critical component of a commercial-free childhood.

There are some really good videos that my children and I watch TOGETHER, but the ones I thought weren't as good are getting shipped back for the $15/video.

Not to stir a pot, but I REALLY do not agree with this.

Sending the DVD's back because your child "didn't like" the video is not right, IMO. You wouldn't take legos back because they didn't like em. And people who believed that these videos would make their kids smarter.... well.... seriously???

I totally agree with you.
I imagine ALOT of people are going to do this though. Whether they were "fooled" by the smart baby thing or not. I can't even believe disney is offering a ridiculous refund like this

I actually just gave about 10 videos to my SIL and I sent about 5 out to the thrift store. My son is pretty much past these , but we did love them. I think I have ONE of our favorites left ( on the go). Maybe we will watch it again sometime for a few laughs

I don't think everyone will be sending videos back because they didn't "like" them. It's not just about that if it's about that at all. While I don't expect the videos on their own to make my children smarter, I do like to select videos that can benefit them in some ways when viewed with me or another adult and used to promote interaction.

I know I'm sending back the ones I knew weren't quality Baby E videos and had no functional purpose. You can definitely tell a big difference with some of the videos. Some were just plain "brain candy" as I call it. I would have returned them long ago after my first viewing of them, however, there was no option to do so due to stores not allowing returns on opened media.

My children and I have used some of the videos as educational aids when we were working on some basic concepts and sign language. There's a lot of good supplemental material in the 'additional" sections of the videos that we used more than the actual feature titles.

I'm not surprised that Disney is doing this since there is more information and research coming out about the effects of TV watching and infants. Also, since Baby E videos were one of (if not the) the first of their kind and most popular, many research/studies have been done on them. I wouldn't be surprised if there are newer studies showing a direct impact on children watching them. Maybe Disney is being strategic and trying to avoid further legal action (if that's ever possible). Disney has not stated in this settlement that the videos ever meant to increase intelligence, so actually this offer is set up to be more like a "satisfaction guaranteed" situation (that makes Disney look better without having to deal with acquisations that this is admitting that the videos were advertised to make babies smarter....

If you look at most of the videos that fall within the purchase "timeline" and qualify for a "refund/upgrade," they are the ones that have specific age suggestions on them and descriptions on how children can benefit from watching them and referred to as digital board "books." It's all really in the wording, so as any company would do, they want to "fix" this fast and easy. I bet the next release of these videos will have big disclaimers on them stating the exact opposite and/or recommending the videos for children over 2including specific instructions like "view and interact with your child". Sad that some people would need that (reminds me of the bumbo recall..sigh).

You're not "stirring the pot" by sharing your opinion, but might do so by judging others for deciding to return/exchange their videos. If you are entitled to your own opinion and actions, so is everyone else.

You haven't ever returned something you weren't satisfied with?

Of course I have returned things that I have not been satisfied with, there is a big difference between satasfied and like/dislike... If I go out to eat and try a new dish, I certainly do not send it back to the kitchen because I don't like it. I think, yup, won't try that again!

TV is usually a form of entertainment, not to make one smarter. And to believe that it would be any different for a child than an adult is ridiculous.

I think many people will try to benefit from this to get money....
