My mom has never had a digital camera. I'd like to get her a simple one for Christmas. It has to be fairly inexpensive (I'd like to stay under $150) and for her it needs to have a large LCD display and be very user-friendly. Nothing with too many bells and whistles or she'll get confused. Any advice?

I have had two Kodak digital cameras and loved them both! IF you get one with a dock then all she has to do is press one button and the downloading will start. The dock also recharges the battery. I also love the Kodak editing program (great for editing and organizing photos).

I don't know about price - but I would definently try ebay and overstock for some good deals. (He He He - what I am doing telling you about where to find good deals!?! :D ) We purchased our first Kodak on ebay used and never had any problems with it.

Some are packaged with a photo printer for $150-$200, which makes a really nice gift.

I'm thinking of getting a slim Sony Cybershot. It is on sale for $149 at Circuit City and K-Mart thsi week. My neighbor has it and loves it. Large screen and the best thing for me is when you turn the dial on top to different modes, the screen tells you waht each of them different modes mean (like, low light conditions, backlighing, etc)

We also have a Sony Cybershot and it's a great, simple camera. My 5 yo uses it very well and it takes good pictures. I can't remember where, but I saw the 6 megapixel one for under $130 (it may have been on the Walmart site) which is a great deal.

I am looking too and consumer reports really likes Canon. The sales people speak highly of them too. Shop around I have found A $50 DIFFERENCE in the cost of the camera and printer. Office Depot has the best price on the Canon I am looking at, and Staples has the best price on the printer. Both are much better than Circuit City or Best Buy of course they all match prices, but that can be a pain. Also, mail in extras and rebates aren't honored by other stores. I have found one problem, lots of stores are out of them now. Good luck!

DH just bought me a new digital camera yesterday. It's a Kodak C743. It looks nice and it's easy to use. The only thing I don't like about Kodak is that it's easy to short it out.

Example...we were on our way to his Aunts wedding last month and I was clearing the pics off the chips. I wasn't thinking about it and when the first one had finished, I pulled it out and put the other one in. No big deal right...WRONG. It shorted out the camera because I didn't turn it off before removing the chip. Camera is useless now over something so little.

My dad also had problems with his about the same time doing the same thing. I'm not sure what happened, but the shutter froze and the camera shorted out. Couldn't be fixed.
