For all those who have switched to the long life florescent bulbs beware. Sylvania and GE closed their US Factories and relocated them to China. These bulbs are now all made in China and are loaded with mercury. If one breaks, take precautions when cleaning up, and try not to inhale the powder.

cmsjsmom, TY for the link. Next time I break one I will know how to clean it up. My oops the last one went into the garbage and fragments got vacumed. The bad thing is I have had mercury poisoning and it is no picnic.

I have a friend who works in the New Hampshire Sylvania factory, which is still up and running. He has however been training crews in Mexico for the past two years as they are opening factories down there. I wasn't aware of any training occurring in China. I do know though that a lot of Sylvania's products are manufactured for the military, a lot of what ends up on our shelves are the rejects, but not for chemical reasons. Fluorescent lights do contain certain gases that are needed for the style of light that they are, that's all fluorescent lights not just Sylvania specific ones, yes it's not the safest chemical but as long as you're not trapped in an airtight box smashing tons and tons of the lights you'll be fine haha
