We do have the Phonics Train. We've had it about 2 years. It's a nice enough toy, but does take up space. We keep it in the closet in it's very large box and take it out on rainy days. It's a cute train toy, but it isn't my favorite Leapfrog toy for teaching letters. My kids have the Fridge Phonics and the Word Whammer toys and they LOVE them. Both my boys learned their letters using the Fridge Phonics. My boys are 3 and 4 1/2 and my older son is autistic. He enjoys the song that the Fridge Phonics sings for each letter; it also sings the alphabet song.
With the train, it comes with blocks and on each side of the block is a letter. You put the block in the train with the letter you've selected face up, push the button on the train and it goes around the track and sings a song. It's a nice toy, but just not my favorite one from Leapfrog, mostly because of the fact that it's a pain to put together, and all the kids really do is watch it go around. It's not as interactive as some of their other learning toys. If it's a great deal and you don't mind all the space it takes up, I'd say go for it. Also, check out Amazon.com's reviews on this toy. I check their customer reviews for a lot of toys I'm considering purchasing.
