Does anyone have those really big washers and dryers, the ones that are front loading and handles like 16 pairs of jeans? I wanted to get a set, but thought I should get some opinions before I looked at them. Any advice?

Thanks,
Tonya

We don't have them yet here in the states because we ended up getting a brand new washer and dryer from a new house my inlaws bought...but we will upgrade to front loaders in the next few years and I can't wait!

My MIL has always had a front loading washer and IMO they do a *much* better job in cleaning your clothes, use less water etc We had front loader washer/dryer when we lived in Europe and the difference was really incredible to me. We had Miele in Switzerland, I'm not even sure if you can buy them in the US, we haven't looked yet. My sister has the LG set and loves it. I definately think you need to go look at them in the store, read the energy ratings, figure out what features you want, check out consumer reports on different brands/models etc

Enjoy!

My brother has the one that said you can wash 16 pairs of jeans, he said last time i talked to him, about 12 pair - but hey, thats still alot of jeans in one load! He loves it though.

We just got the LG front load. Havent really seen a difference in anything except using less detergent.

We have those!!! They are WONDERFUL!! I have to do laundry very often DH works construction and I have to wash his clothes all the time, so its soooo easy and they make them sooo clean with MUCH less water, electricity and soap... We save big time in that sense... I can wash my clothes and my babies clothes in the same load, and use my soap, and dont have to buy the special "baby" soap cause the washer has a 2nd rinse option therefore his clothes though combined with mine are totally clean of soap, and no allergic reactions happen.. Not to mention you use sooo much less soap... We use Allens natural detergent, and you use such a small amount but it still comes clean.. And they are fast.... I can use the "express" wash option and have my load of laundry dont in 30 mins.!! Love that!!! Especially when you have 5 loads to do sometimes... The dryer is fast to! Really Fast!!!

Any suggestions on a good brand of front loaders?? We have been looking at these also, mainly Whirlpool and we are going to go look at the Kenmores. Some of them have a sanitary cycle and that seems great, especially when the kids are sick.

I have an LG washer (got it 75% off on scratch and dent) and the dryer was not a good one for it so I got the scratch and dent samsung. Very good!! Around here menards has Whirlpool's for $1000 for the set. I paid $1200 for my set though.

I have the whirlpool duet. It is nice and holds a lot. It''s much quieter than my previous machine. Cleans fine. Dry quickly. Uses less detergent and is supposedly more energy efficient. The only two things I don't like as well as my old top loader is.....Before when I had a shirt with a stain on it I could let it wash a while and then stop the machine, get it out to see if the stain was gone or needed more scrubbing, then start the machine again. Well with the front loaders, you have to totally drain the machine before you can unlock the door, so it disrupts the entire cycle. I miss that feature. And the other thing (this may only be me.) I thought it was easier standing and pulling clothes out of the top of the machine. Now I sort of have to squat and bend over and try to drag everything out. Not as easy on my bad back. They have a pedestal thing you can put under them. One of my friends has them and I think it makes it easier since you don't have to bend over so far and the whole machine is elevated about a foot up. Plus the pedestal has drawers you can use to store things in. CAN'T REMEMBER how much more they add to the cost.

I have the Kenmore set & I love them!! In our previous house we had them side by side with the pedastals and yes, the pedestals make them a better height. In this house we have them stacked and I have soo much more room for storage in my laundry "room"/closet!

They are very efficient with water, electric and soap. I don't buy the special HE soap, just the regular and use less. I think I only buy Tide (300oz) maybe 3-4 times a year and I have 2 kids and a mechaninc dh! I wouldn't go back to the top loader style.

We bought the washer and the pedestals from a Sears appliance outlet. They didn't have a matching dryer, so we found that on sale at Sears. The dryers are cheaper than the washers!

A salesman once told me that the regular washers use an average of 40 gallons of water per load and the HE front loader uses only 14 gallons per load! After intterupting a load and looking at the little amount of water in the washer, I believe him!

Go for it!! You won't regret it!

I have the Maytag front loaderand the dryer. I love it. My favorite thing is that washer and dryer finish at the same time. I do have a pause button on my machine so that I can interrupt the cycle and add to or take clothes out. When I finish I just start it up again and it figures out what it was doing. I can't say how much it has saved on electricity because we are in a new house and the electric rates for the area we were in before really were wacky.

I have the Kenmore Oasis set that works like the frontload but actually loads from the top. I love it! It actually has a bigger tub than the frontloads, so it gets an even larger load. It was the largest available at the time we purchased (about a year ago). Plus, I thought it would be easier on the back to have a toploader. I have saved a ton on laundry detergent and water, not to mention TIME! We have so much laundry as we are a family of six that takes biweekly karate classes. So, we have lots of extra clothes from that, including towels from the extra showers. I can actually wash a full set of queen bedclothes including comforter and extra blanket in one load! It has cut my laundry time in at least half! Drying time is significantly decreased because the clothes come out of the washer much dryer than my old set. This washer has so many settings to "personalize" the load if you want -- timed delay, energy saver, soak, extra rinse, etc. It's one of the best purchases we've ever made. Well worth the extra money. Sears has these on sale about once a month, too. The only "negative" to the set, if you want to call it that, is the dryer makes a very slight knocking noise if it hasn't run in the last 24 hours. It's supposed to do that and it's barely noticable. But, something to note if your set will be in the kitchen or somewhere really close to your living space. Otherwise, I'd highly recommend this set!
