Indian firm Ranbaxy said it has been approved to market a generic version of GlaxoSmithKline's Augmentin.
The company said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved its amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for oral suspension, 600 mg/42.9 mg (base)/5 mL.

Ranbaxy estimated combined sales of Augmentin Oral Suspension at $216 million, with sales of the 600 mg/42.9 mg/5 mL formulation totaling $136.9 million in the suspension market, quoting data from IMS Health.

The drug is indicated for the treatment of pediatric patients with recurrent or persistent acute otitis media due to S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae or M. catarrhalis.
