I have to vote again for the Fisher Price booster. We have the Healthy Care one and the whole thing can be either be placed in the dishwasher or washed down with a bleach solution as needed. My son is 2 today and we still use this all the time! He does not use the tray anymore but it was nice when he was little as it contained the mess and fit right in the sink. I did see that FP has a new version with the padded seat that reclines for when they are little which looks very nice but harder to clean. I have loved ours!

We also have the Stokke Kinderzeat which is German(?) and can be used through adulthood. It is supposed to promote good posture as it adjusts many ways to support their feet and back. We use this one daily now and the booster when we go out or eat at a friends house. The Kinderzeat is for 18months and up and we used the booster until then.

There seems to be another version of the Stokke Kinderzeat that has shoulder straps and can be used from 6 months and up. It was shown in the Parent's magazine "Green" issue. It is an environmetally good choice because it can be used throughout childhood and into adulthood. It is $200 but to us was well worth the investment.

We used a wooden high chair. We try to stay away from plastics, especially around food. Wood cleans up great, looks good, and doesn't off-gas toxic chemicals into your home.

(I wonder if the plastic trays on high chairs are food-safe plastic? If they are made of regular household plastic, they probably contain lead, mercury, phylates, carcinogens, and known hormone disruptors. Food will leach these chemicals out of the plastic upon contact, especially foods containing fat.)

This is the one we bought. When our daughter was older, she used just the chair, without the tray, pushed to the table.

Another vote for a reclining booster seat. We bought one for DS when he was a toddler (we were out of town and it was the only booster seat Target had, so we actually got it in a pinch). It is fantastic because it reclines and you can put an infant in it (we have the Safety First one). It is also SO easy to clean and you just throw the cushion in the washing machine. We had/have a Peg Perego high chair with the leather seat cover. It was OK, but VERY hard to clean - too many cracks and crevices in the seat. Plus the eating tray is huge.

we had the reclining one love it and it was only 15$

I'm going to have to agree with the booster seat crowd! I had a highchair with both, but if I had it to do over, I would have just bought the booster seat.

I am also a huge fan of the Fisher Price Healthy Booster seat! We have 3: 2 at the table for dd(3yrs) & ds(15mths) and 1 in the van for ds to use when we eat out. It is nice that they make a reclining one now. If they had made that when ds was a baby I would have ditched the highchair when we moved into the smaller house!! The FP seat must be well liked because I have yet to find one at a yardsale, goodwill or consignment sale; I had to buy all of mine brand new!

We bought the Eddie Bauer booster chair in pine wood. I love it! It has a soft pad that easily comes off and can go right in the wash. Also, it has a highchair type plastic tray for when they are young and that removes and can just be used as a regular booster and pull right up to the table. The cost was $40.00 and worth every penny. We have been using it for almost 2 years, and still going

We use the Healthy Care booster seat by Fisher Price and LOVE IT. I throw it's strap over my shoulder and carry that thing everywhere! For example I take it to my dd's dance class, quickly attach it to a chair and my 1yr old ds has breakfast while his sister is in class. Helps the poor boy's time there go faster. ha So nice too to take to functions where there might not be highchairs, friends homes, etc. It's so easy to clean too and cheap! I had a $5 off coupon for Fisher price at BabiesRUs so it was only $20!

I use the wooden highchair that Kmart carried a while back. It has a cloth cushion and I love it because I can just throw it in the washer when it gets dirty. The tray is dishwasher safe and has a removable top for really bad messes. It also has pullout sections that hold a juice cup and baby food jars. It has a one-hand release as well. I just love it!!! I also have one that hooks to the table for picnics and such and love it as well. It is nice when you want the baby right at the table with you.
