Hi Ladies,

We're about to buy a high chair for our son and before I do, I thought I'd elicit some opinions from those of you who have already gained experience. Some questions I have:

* do you prefer the kind that sit up to the table, or have their own tray? Why (advantages/disadvantages?)
* do you use cloth cushions or are they covered with something plastic for easy clean up? (Cloth seems a bit high maintenance to me, but they're in the majority in Germany)
* any particular styles that you find better than others?
* anything else I need to consider (safety is obviously at the top of the list, but what else?)

Thanks in advance!!

I have 2 portable boosters in lieu of a high chair. I have the foldable style that I keep in our vehicle. I do not consider putting the children in the public high chairs-EW! Then I have one by The First Years that reclines, 3 height positions, tray removes for easy cleaning, saftety belt, thin pad on the back of the chair that I get away with wiping clean most of the time and throw it in the washer every now & then. I plan to never get rid of this chair. It will be for guests and maybe grandchildren some day. I'm not a hoarder - but I'm keeping this chair

I ditched the high chair after my first in favor of a booster that straps onto a chair. Cheaper, easier to clean, and takes up less room. You can buy the ones that recline for younger infants. We just fed our son in his infant seat or the swing until he was old enough to sit in the booster. No regrets.

I have the FP Aquarium high chair. The cover is plastic-y and can be washed. But the first time I tossed it in the washer I had some lines show up in the plastic. Still usable tho.

We can pull it up to the table if it's at a low setting. I like that it reclines - and while I didn't use it for feeding ds#1 baby food - I probably will w/ds #2, so the recline is nice this time around.

selection of baby gear in Germany is nowhere near what it is in the US - and the prices are at least double for everything... so I didn't think they would have these fancy booster seats. however, having just looked at the German Fisher Price website, I see that they do have the reclining & adjustable booster seats that seem like they'd be great and easy to use (not to mention that they take up much less space, which we don't have much of!!)

Thanks for the tips - and please, if you haven't responded already, still tell me your thoughts and ideas! I haven't bought anything yet.

If its possible I would pass on a high chair and just put a booster in the chair. High chairs get in the way and are messy. Unfortunatly I have to have one becuase My table top is very thick and I cant find a booster that will slip under it so that she can get close enough to the table, and my chairs are fabric and I would have to cover it to keep it from getting ruinned..

I have to agree with the others about just getting a booster type seat that attaches to the chair. I used a regular high chair with my first, but couldn't stand the space it took up so I used the booster with my second.

I have an Evenflo high chair from Target. I HATE it!!!!
I even sent a letter to Evenflo telling them how bad it was!! Only a couple weeks after I sent the letter; Target stopped selling the chair. Go-figure.

Anyhow, I often wish that I had a simple high chair that was all plastic with ZERO cracks and crevices. I want something easy to clean.

If I have another baby I may just ditch my high chair and seek out other options. Maybe these booster seats are worth looking into?

Maybe the old fashioned plastic vinyl seat with stainless steel tray wasn't such a bad idea to begin with!

I bought that expensive Peg Perego for ds when he was a baby. It's horrible!!!! I'm still using it now for dd, but only because dh won't let me justify dumping the smelly thing and buying something else, like the Healthy lines from FP. Don't waste your money on Peg Perego. Plus, their customer service is some of the worst I've seen. The pad isn't washable, and gets moldy from surface wiping. The tray has many crevices in which food goes in and you can't disassemble it to get it out.

That said, I bought the Nojo high chair seat covers that are pretty universal in size to cover the chair, and they are a god send. I simply remove it after dinner and toss it in the wash - I keep a few on hand. They are about 19.99.

I have a Graco highchair, the one with the jungle print. I like it a lot it is very simple and easy to clean up. Like almost all the other highchairs it takes up quite a bit of space but that's fine because we have a large dining room. My daughter is 18mos right now and we are hoping to put her in the strap on booster seat this summer.
