My husband and I are researching on HDTV for our living room that we want to buy one in couple months, but right now we have 52 inch big screen TV and want to sell it so we could use this money to buy a new HDTV. I want to know if anyone of you have HDTV, how do you like it? Any recommend on the brand name of HDTV I should check out?

We love ours and by next year all programing will be HD by law. We bought a Polaroid 37" at Circuit City back in January. With the right antenna you can pull Hi-Def signals from the air if you don't have cable or a dish. I have to say, Walmart is having a clearance on LCDs right now. In fact I saw my TV reduced to $697, $200 less than what we paid for ours. At the time, though, Circuit City was cheaper than them, but not now!

HDTV will let you see all the pores and lines on the actors' faces! Seriously, there is a difference - it's like going from VHS to DVD, but better, even, in definition. That said, there are still some problems. We're on Cox and the number of HD channels is still limited, but growing. The nature HD channels are awesome when viewing landscapes! We also have a problem with tiling occasionally, where the digital is messing up from the cable company and the blurry little boxes appear. We have also noticed that when we are viewing the channels in HD the sound is lower. That may have to do w/HD sound, but I don't know, as we aren't currently using the surround sound w/it. If you're going to buy a TV, definitely get an HD ready one (I don't think you will have much choice), but to view HD DVDs you will need a HD or BluRay DVD player...however, the jury's still out on which way to go there and the costs are still high, plus the # of HD DVDs is still limited, so I'd wait a little.

We went Toshiba based on features, plus Toshiba's supposed to be such a good brand. HA! Ours went out three months after the warranty expired (we have bowing and other issues, but due to the cost ($500) of fixing or replacing, we've had to live w/it - terrible because it ghosts terribly). Toshiba would do NOTHING to help us. In checking into the brand we found many similar complaints, with people having huge problems w/the company even during the warranty period.

I didn't think I would care, but I love it! You do see all blemishes though. It really is quite a bit better picture quality. It is sort of unbelievable when you first compare it. My dh has been researching it FOREVER (well, three years or so) and found a great deal on one to replace our broken TV in the bedroom. He is still researching for the living room. I promised him a new (aka bigger) TV when he got a promotion and that was 2.5 years ago! At least he does his homework and does not waste money! lol

Ours in the bedroom is Sylvania. It is also a flat screen and I love it!

We have one, have had it for 4 years & love it. We have a 52" Samsung and the bulb just now went out. Make sure when you get one, you get DLP. Can't remember exactly why, but I remember that's what we were looking for. I can ask dh when he gets home tonight. The service plan isn't a bad idea either. By the time you pay for a bulb & a cleaning, it's the cost of a plan. So it pays for itself, then if anything should go wrong you are covered too.

We got one last month. The options for what to get are endless and they really make a difference. We got a Westinghouse- very reasonably priced and works great. My tip to you when getting your TV: don't get anything from stores like Best Buy, WalMart, etc. They are a great resource for comparing prices and seeing the quality of picture, but if you order online, a lot of retailers not only give you a better price, but the shipping is free as well!

If you need any help, feel free to pm me. My dh immersed himself in the world of HD and is now some kind of expert. lol. He knows the difference between 1080, 720 and 4something...or whatever. Stuff like that. lol.

Good luck!

-Lucky

If you'd like, PM me and I'll pass it onto DH...He works for our local cable company and is a genius (I'm not kidding) when it comes to home electroncis and the what's what of HD and what you want and don't want....there's WAY too much to go into on here!

Good luck in your search!

My husband is a home theater geek so he's constantly reading up on this stuff.

We have a 55" Mitsubishi rear projection TV with a built-in HD tuner. We love it. I didn't really care much about the HD or the big screen at first, but I have to say that I love both now. The HD picture is really nice - especially for watching football. When it comes to watching movies, it's like having your own theater! We recently bought an HD DVD player so we can watch movies in HD now too.

The big screen is not our main TV though - I still watch most of my shows on the regular TV in our living room (which is HD ready, we just don't have a receiver). It's actually better that way since I'm just as happy to NOT see CSI in quite that much detail.
