The mosquitos are horrible here. We tried to go outside the other day and we were swarmed with mosquitos. I even sprayed the kids with mosquito spray and it didnt seem to do much good. What are you using for mosquitos in your yard?? Do those citronella candles work?? I dont want the kids cooped up in the house all summer. I also dont want them to get west nile virus that they carry. My husbands great grandmother got it about five years ago. She was like 90 when she got, really healthy for her age but after that her health just went down hill.

Well...that's too bad! Repellent works really well for us. What kind were you using? We also try to avoid being outside when mosquitoes are most active.

I do use citronella candles (along with repellent) when we entertain in the evening outside or if the kids are out in the evening, in the yard. I don't know how well they really work since I'm using them in conjunction with repellent.

You don't have any standing water on your property, do you? Maybe talk to someone at your city hall/town hall to see if mosquitos are particularily bad in your area or what steps you can take on your property to reduce their numbers. I found some links for your state...

When my inlaws had a house on Lake Erie, there were always TONS of bugs, including mosquitos but also bugs that looked like mosquitoes, but they didn't bite. My MIL called them 'Canadian Soldiers'.

I sprayed them down with OFF mosquito spray. This happened in the middle of the day. Usually, we didnt have to worry about it until it started to get dark. I am going to try some candles too. Thank you!

The mosquito's haven't gotten bad in this part of the state yet ( although now that I've said it, I'm sure they'll be here tomorrow!!!) They spray in our town a lot...We went to MN two weeks ago, to visit family and while there we used the Avon skin so soft- which works very well! I was suprized! Avon also has a sale on it right now, and someone on this site gave some code for free shipping, so hopefully that's good info for you. We've used it for years now, because it's even good for the little babies!

Mosquito's are horrible here (at least 8 months of the year) so we just installed a mosquito system. It was expensive at first, but I have been able to use my yard for three months already that I have not been able to in years past without spraying all of us down and feeling greasy.

A tip I just learned is to rub rubbing alcohol on the mosquito bite as soon as it occurs and it reduces the swelling. My son gets huge welts and this has helped a lot.

Avon Skin So Soft is very good for repelling them. I can highly recommend it. OFF is also good. DS2 is allergic to insect bites, and this morning sure enough, I found him scratching a HUGE mosquito bite. Not as bad as it has been other times, but it let me know that they are here....

I have had no luck with the citronella candles in the past. I'd suggest you check all your window screens to make sure they are in good shape and have your whole family be quick about opening doors to the outside. (My DH thinks nothing of leaving the front door open while he goes outside for 15 minutes, letting all sorts of bugs and the dreaded lizards in the house )

And get rid off the standing water, no playing outside at dawn and dusk.

They are bad here to. My middle son is also allergic to their bites.
We had to take him and get shots the last time he got bites because
the bendryl wouldn't help. We use Skin so soft also but we use the one
with sunscreen and it's great if not for this he wouldn't be able to go
outside. He even played t-ball were the bugs were extremely bad. The
other parent's were asking to use it was so good. Not to mention it's
got the sunscreen in it and we've all used it and none of has ever got
bitten or sunburned. Hope this helps.
