I received a survey from CVS wanting my opinion on potential additions they are considering for the Extra Care program. I know there are a lot of CVS fanatics here, so I thought some of you might be interested in reading what they are considering.

----------

You can “multiply” your Extra Bucks by stocking up. For example, if you buy one particular bottle of shampoo, you would be awarded $2 in Extra Bucks. But if you buy two bottles, you would be awarded $5 in Extra Bucks, and if you buy three bottles, you would be awarded $8 in Extra Bucks.

ExtraCare members could visit any of the 6,000 CVS locations nationwide to obtain travel assistance, similar to that offered by AAA.

ExtraCare customers would be given free gifts in-store when they purchase certain CVS brands or CVS proprietary brands (e.g., Lumene, Life Fitness, etc.) Free gifts could include trial sizes of new skin care products, for example.

CVS can provide customers with an in-store kiosk that will allow them to review their ExtraCare account and determine how many Extra Bucks they have accumulated, print out any Extra Bucks they want to use, see if there are any promotional Buck offers that week, get information on sale items, etc.

CVS could create an online health records management system tied to the customer’s ExtraCare card. This would allow customers to track their prescriptions, doctor visits, test results, etc., online.

When you fill a new prescription at CVS, you’ll get a percentage off (e.g., 10%) all merchandise in the rest of the store for that one day.

After a customer achieves a certain spending level, all of the coupons and Extra Bucks could be “banked” on their ExtraCare card to use whenever they choose. There is no need to carry the paper coupons or receipts or to worry about expiration dates.

Certain days would be designated as “Senior Days” where seniors can get double Extra Bucks on all of their purchases.

CVS could offer special limited sales events – like a two-day sale – where ExtraCare members would get special values and increased Extra Bucks earnings over what is generally available.

ExtraCare members can order both their prescriptions and their personal care items online and have this merchandise available for pickup at the CVS drive-thru.

ExtraCare customers would receive notices of upcoming sales on their favorite products a week or two ahead of schedule. For example: “Mrs. Smith – your Matrix Curl Life Shampoo will be on sale the week of June 14. Don’t forget to come in and save.”

ExtraCare customers could go online and apply their ExtraCare coupons and other manufacturers’ coupons to their card, so when those products are purchased, the savings would be automatically applied, with no coupons necessary.

ExtraCare customers could subscribe to have alerts about ExtraCare coupons or rewards sent to their cell phone. For instance, you could receive a text message on your cell phone reminding you about a specific ExtraCare offer on a product you regularly buy. Then, if you were to purchase the product that day, you would automatically receive $2, for example, in Extra Bucks.

You can give your Extra Bucks that you have accumulated to other people that you designate – friends, family, community groups, etc.

ExtraCare members could participate in programs where they can set their own specific health-related goals – for example, to measure their blood pressure every day, to take their medication exactly as directed, or to exercise at least three times per week. CVS would provide easy ways for customers to track their progress, and provide them with rewards for doing so. Points could be awarded for customers who participate, and these points could be redeemed for free pedometers, healthy cook books, exercise equipment, yoga classes, etc.

ExtraCare customers would be notified of sales before the CVS circular is distributed to shoppers at large.

CVS will have “Double Days” – that is, there will be two-day promotional periods where customers can earn double Extra Bucks on their purchases.

ExtraCare customers, if they wished, would be allowed to donate all or a portion of their Extra Bucks to a charity that they could specify. For example, “I want all of my first quarter Bucks to be donated to Habitat for Humanity”

Customers who transfer a prescription to CVS from another pharmacy would be offered Double Extra Bucks for 30 days.

CVS would reach out through online surveys to ExtraCare customers and get their advice on corporate issues such as which charities CVS should donate to as a corporation, or what types of promotional events CVS should sponsor, etc.
