HELP !!! buying crib

Buying a crib for my daughter. Went to BabiesRUs. Regular cribs (drop down sides) seemed so flimsy. Convertible cribs so expensive. Really can't see buying one just to have a double bed later and seems as if it would be harder to get a baby out with no side to let down.
Just wondering where and what brands mommies are buying now. Has anyone bought one online? Have seen the brand "Stork Craft" and it seems reasonably priced and I like the fact that they have been in business over 60 years. Does anyone have experience with this brand? Thanks for the help.

We have a gorgeous Ragazzi crib that my in-laws bought for $800. It has been through three kids and still looks great. I see BEAUTIFUL cribs (and matching pieces) of this quality on Craigslist all the time for cheap! If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't be picky about the style so much, but would learn about the good brands and then check Craigslist. You can get really good deals, and after all, the kids are only in them for a short time...

I bought one 9 and a half years ago before my 4th child was born. It was nice looking wood and cost $100 at Shop-Ko! The side dropped down, but to be honest, I almost never remembered to drop it!! It was very sturdey and we used it for my next 3 boys too and my grandson!! I just gave it away the other day to someone who was going to make a bench out of it. So it went through 5 rough little boys and is now a bench! Not bad for a hundred bucks!

Since you're checking out cribs, you might also be interested in bedding. There is a TON of brand new, NIP crib bedding from Pottery Barn Kids on eBay. I bought really nice bedding for my daughter and my son at a fraction of the cost this way.

I believe that Storkcraft is a brand that BabiesRUs carried. It is an "ok" brand; known as lower cost, plain, just not fancy...I haven't heard any main complaints - just check to make sure what you look at hasn't been recalled.

Thanks for the advice. Hoping someone can tell me how a person finds out what the "good" brands are. Stork Craft is sold on babyuniverse.com and to me, some of them are beautiful and some are over $300. Is that average or is that considered low cost?

I would say that low cost is around $100- at walmart.com we saw a decent one for that price. the brand was "Stork Craft" We are having to buy two, so I hear you on looking at prices but wanting good quality! The funny thing is...we just sold the one that we had at a rummage sale about two months ago- bought it for $190 about 5 1/2 years ago. It was a nice one too.

The ones that we are highly considering ( we want good quality but on the lower cost end) are...

Storkcraft Rochester Stages Crib- it is selling for $190 and it has a nice sized drawer underneath for storage

Simplicity- Camille 4 in 1 Crib $199.98 It is a nice looking crib and also has the storage drawer on the bottom. I also like the Simplicity-Providence 4-in-1 convertible crib and that is the same cost.
All 3 are very nice cribs and a friend of mine bought the storkcraft - Rochester stages crib and it is a very good quality crib...You certainly don't need to buy a $300 crib! No matter what cost they are, they all have to pass the same safety tests and yes, some of them look better and last a bit longer- but I do believe that you can find a very good crib for between $170-$200. Go to the Walmart website or the Target website. Some of the cribs aren't shown at all the stores, but right now if you order it online at walmart they'll ship it to the store for an additional 97 cents!

Go to your local bookstore (i.e. barnes and nobles, borders) and go into the baby section. Find the book Baby Bargains by Denise and Alan Fields. This book tells you all about everything for babies. What is a neccesity and what isn't. They go thru all the brands and let you know what is a good brand and what isn't. Saved alot of money when we pregnant with our first.

ITA!!! I bought mine used and was so happy with it! It had previously been used for 2 kids, I had my 2 in it, then passed it on and it is now being used for 2 more kids - a Simmons still in great shape! Had I known more about the world of used, good quality furniture, I would have saved even more of a bundle when furnishing my house! You just have to look!

I was going to say to try uour local freecycle website, if you have on, e-bay or Craigslist. Addison is in a crib that is 20 years old. It has been past down in my family. It was a canopy crib but in all the passing down, the posts for the canopy have dissapeared. I am guessing that one of the family mambers that had a boy did not put the canopy on because it was too "girlie" and misplaced the posts, that's ok though.
