I had NO idea Bunk Beds were recommended for AGES 6 and up.

Here is a link to Bunk Bed Safety

Bunk Bed Safety: Rules and Precautions for These Popular Children's Beds

In my search for this....I also found many articles of parents putting children on the top bunk before they turned six...and read about many accidents.

I was thinking 4 or 5.....I had NO idea the recommendation was 6....so I thought I would share....

Maybe I am the only one who didn't know this....

I thought it was 8? At least it was a few years ago. 6 I still think is too young for a top bunk.

I think it really depends on the kid involved...sure, they have guidelines, just like with everything else in this world. Parents need to use that information along with common sense. It's too bad that common sense is seriously lacking in this world!

Both of my kids had slept in a top bunk around the age of 5 or 6. The top bunk had a rail that was tall enough to keep them from rolling out and I had no concerns.

We have a good railing all the way around the top, my son is 6 but once in awhile his 3 yr old brother sleeps there. However he is not a jump around no fear kid. I sit for a 4 yr old that I would NEVER even consider letting him go up there! I have to agree with Oregano on this one it depends on the child. Also my 3 yr old is bigger for his age not fat but a solid tall 3 yr old, 2bearsmom can attest to that!

Right now, my 7 & 8 yr old boys have them. The 8 yr old sleeps on top but he hates them. We are planning to move the 7 yr old in with my 4 yr old, then they will have the bunk beds and my 7 yr old will be on top. We will have very strict rules about playing up there and my 4 yr old will NOT be allowed up there!

I totally agree with Oregano. I don't think that they were intended for 2-3 yo's, but there are some that are younger than 6 that would do OK. My oldest was 4 when she got hers, but you have to know her....she is like the uber rule follower. She only went up at bedtime, and didn't play around. Now my 2nd is 6 and there is very little way I would feel comfortable with her in the top bunk. I just know she would find some way to "tarzan" outta the thing
