Hey I was wondering if any one knew how these things were supposed to work? I thought it was just like a diaper except that they wouldn't swell up in the water, however now twice my dd has peed all over me even before she got to the water. Is it normal for them to do this or did I get some duds?

Nope, you didn't get duds. They do not work like diapers. They only work in the pool (when they are completely wet) to keep any fecal matter from leaking out. Whenever we would get ready to go to the pool, the swimpants/swim diaper would be the last thing to go on DD. I see a lot of moms putting the swimpants on their kids right before they get into the water at the pool. DH was a little freaked about DD being naked in public (I know, I know, she was 2!) so I put them on at home and just hoped we make it into the pool before there are any accidents.

I'm not sure, but I believe that they are mainly to hold in the poo (if they would happen to go). Just like the bottoms of the swimsuits that are made with the funky plastic inside. I don't think they are made to hold in the pee...just trap it some.

Thanks girls! Next time I'll be smarter and put them on right before she goes in the water. Some one needs to come up with something to do both, not swell and absorb.

Our swim teacher gave me a great idea when my daughter was taking lessons. If you're worried about putting the diaper on too early (like when it's easier to dress them at home and then put the kids in the car), just put a regular diaper over the bathing suit with the swim diaper on underneath. When you get to the pool or beach, just take the regular diaper off.
