FDA Again Warns of a Contact Lens Solution

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued another warning Wednesday concerning the recall of a possibly contaminated contact lens solution.
The FDA said many consumers might not be aware of the May recall of Complete MoisturePlus Multipurpose Contact Lens Solution manufactured by Advanced Medical Optics Inc. of Santa Ana, Calif., and continue to use the recalled product.

Several cases of Acanthamoeba keratitis -- a rare, but serious, eye infection caused by a microscopic, waterborne parasite -- have been reported involving the use of the product by people wearing soft contact lenses. The FDA said consumers should immediately stop using the solution and discard all partially used or unopened bottles.

Acanthamoeba keratitis can lead to vision loss, with some victims requiring a corneal transplant.

There is a patient where I work that has this from this solution. This person has 6 different eye drops, most have to be administered every hour, 5 minutes apart. You do the math. Nothing but eye drops all day.

This is the cleaner that I was using. I got rid of it in June when the first announcement came out.
