I'm doing alot of research on a unit for Kelsey for X-mas. I'm limited to 5 gifts for each kids. She wants a laptop computer she found that is princess but I think it's too young for her and it's almost like what she already has. I do the the leapfrog system for her, but don't know if anyone else has every purchased any of these before. Pro's and con's.

Thanks

this is the leapfrog I like, however, getting into the cartridges I'm worried about - but think she can grow with it.

Target : LeapFrog Leapster Multimedia Learning System - Pink

This is the laptop she wants- Target : VTech Disney Magic Wand Laptop

The Leapster is great My daughter has been playing with hers for 2.5 years. They have many different games and you can get them used on ebay pretty cheap. My DD has the portable one and loves it. Oh and they survive drops pretty well...ours survived a drop on a tile floor more than once.

i want to get my son one of these type of things for christmas, but i am leanign more towards the vtech one, vsmile i think it is called. the only reason why is that we have had a few different leap frog items and they dont work very well. i bought the my first leap pad used on ebay and it worked at forst then started not working, so i figured it was becasue it was used so i bought him a new one and it does the same thing, only works when it wants to. all the cartridges we have are new, it has never been dropped, he only plays with it when he is sitting and we take care of it. we just recently got the imagination desk by leap frog and it does the same, only works when it wants too. my daughter has several leap frog toys but none that takes cartridges so i think it is something with the cartridge ones or something so i really dont want to spend that much money on the leapster, i think i will be getting the vsmile,a nd that has several different thing you can hook to it, like an art studio is one that looks really cool and there was a few other things besides the regular games .

We have the Leapster for my DD and it is great! She has had it for almost 3 yrs. now and have used it so much. It is especially great for car rides- easy to transport! The cartridges I have been able to find on sale at Toy's R Us (Buy 2 get 1 free) and $5.00 off, but I've had the best luck at Target, they clearance them 2x a year. I just got 3 Leapster games for $3.24 a piece in July at Target!
Also, at Costco they have package sets with the Leapster, case and 2 games for $79.00. I'm not sure of the colors though. Good Luck
