We are big into video games around here, but my 4 yr old never gets to play any. I was thinking that a Leapster might be a good Christmas present for him. Anyone have any experience with these?

We bought one for our daughter for her 4th birthday. We usually don't spend that much money on a birthday present, but I can honestly say that it is one of the few toys that was well worth the money. She is now 5 1/2 and plays with it all the time. We love that all of the games are educational.....otherwise we wouldn't have bought it for her. Plus, it's great for road trips

I bought my ds his for his 4th birthday too. I bought him the Lmax. I love that it's educational, and you can also hook it up to the big TV and watch him play. We don't take it down all the time. I don't want a gamer on my hands at 4. But he really isn't into much, but he will sit and play that leapster for a long time.

Love 'em! DH got our three oldest, 7, 5 and 3 one each. I incorporate some of them into our homeschool sometimes. They are more durable that the Vsmiles, or so I hear tell. That's a big plus. We had one last year and it got thrown in a toilet by three y.o. DS. DH was maaad. They aren't cheap.

They are better than the Vtech, that is for sure. We got the LMax so Julia could hook it up to the tv with that one letter game to practice her writing. However I must confess she's had it a year now and we've only done that twice so I don't really know if it's worth the extra money. We bought them for car trips and they like them but we don't play them much. Costco has a great price on a set, leapster, case and 2 games, don't remember how much but it was a great deal off of retail.

My ds has the original leapster that we bought for him 3 years ago. He loves it and I like that the games are educational.

I was talking with a parent of one of my boys i had in summer school and she said that leap frog is good at replacing them when something happens and all you have to pay is shipping. and i got a chance to check it out cause i know one day my ds will be into those things and I really enjoyed it and i let my DH check it out and he liked it as well. they seem very durable and i just love leap frog anyway.

We absolutely *love* the Leapster. Ds got his 1st one when he turned 3 and he is now 8. He doesn't play with it as much now since we 'ruined' him and got him a gameboy. We really should get some of the leapster cartridges that are geared more toward older children (I think the recommended ages for leapster are 3-10). My dd's (6 and 4) play with them all the time. I can actually say that is the one toy that my kids have gotten tons of use out of (well except for legos ). So worth the money!!!!!!!
