We got my 5 ds a leapster for his birthday in August and he really, really likes it. We did not do the l-max. We want him to use his on car trips and when we have to wait places.

Most people say their children only use the tv option once or twice a year. Another consideration is that the l-max games are more expensive and they are harder to find on e-bay.

I would highly recommend the leapster. My son loves it and I feel good about him playing because it's educational as well.

Just my 2 cents!

Ds is 7 and he still enjoys playing his leapster. We do not have the l-max either. It is great to take along in the car and I like that it is educational. DD has started showing an interest in playing with it so I think I am going to get her one for xmas.

my DS #1 got one for his 5th birthday and DS#2 plays it as well. They both love it. I would get the lmax - in fact I did, because there are far more games for the Lmax then just the leapster. We hardly ever use the tv connection, but thats because I let them play at night before bed.

I know this thread is a little old, hopefully you have already made the purchase!! I rave about our L-max every chance I get my oldest is 5 1/2 and she got hers 2 christmas's ago and SHE STILL loves it, my 3 1/2 yr old is getting her own from santa this year Grandma bought the 1st one and really didnt know the difference @ the time becuase she was in a rush L-max was on the endcap, otherwise I would have stayed with just the Leapster which is cheaper and my daughter only used the tv connection twice she was not coordinated enough back then to watch the L-Max and the Tv at the same time may be a little different now but still Either way you go ITS A GREAT product!!

I'm so glad you mentioned your 3 1/2 year old because I was considering getting one for my DS who is the same age but I wasn't sure if he's too young. Thanks!

I bought the Lmax for my ds for his 4th birthday last year. You can use both leapster and lapster lmax games. We have only used the TV connection once. I don't let him roam around with it all the time. I keep it up. but he does really like it. I like the fact that it's educational games and it can grow with him until he's 10 (or they discontinue the games ) The only drawback is that the batteries go quick. I think this year I'm getting him the rechargeable battery pack.

We bought a Leapster for my oldest when she was 3 1/2. She is 4 1/2 and still loves it. I would recommend only get 1 or 2 games at first and then giving them a game at a time to keep them interested. That probably sounds like common sense but it is all about something new.

Those of you with the Lmax I asked this question in another place maybe you can help I know that both leapster and leapster Lmax games can be used on the Lmax but for some reason I thought I read that there are certain levels that can be played only if you hook the Lmax up to t.v. am I confused or is this correct thanks Robin

That maybe true I cant say I read about that..... Maybe I will try the t.v. hookup this weekend (I need to find those darn cords) We also have the Leapster TV console that plays the games it just didnt receive any love! But again maybe if I try it now that they are intrested in our PS2 they may really like to play on t.v.

OHHH We bought the plug in but becuase the batteries go so quickly, THAT works great when we are at home and shes just sitting on the couch playing. Thats a standard plug-in ahhh I cant think of the name of those electric plug ins though.

Leapsters Website I believe has the battery packs but their sale ends today!
