It's been a LONG time since we've purchased a TV, but we're thinking of getting a bigger one for our family room. We'd like it big, but not huge (no movie screens for us) maybe around the 30-40 inch size? Does anybody know about the different kinds of new technology: LCD, HDTV, plasma, etc. It's all so confusing. What should we be looking for?

We currently have a Plasma TV. It is a Panasonic. We have had it for about a year and a half now. If you want the HD channels to come through your TV, then you have to contact your Cable or Satalite TV company and ask them if the channels are being broadcast in HD yet. If not, then they might have you pay extra for the HD channel package. I know a lot more of our channels are now being broadcast in HD more and more all the time.

I LOVE our TV. Once you go to a HD wide screen TV you will never want to go back! Your picture will be amazing!!! If you are a movie family then you will love it for your home movies as well!!!!!

We have a 42" Wide TV and if you ask me, it is the perfect size. Not too big, but large enough to watch a good movie on. I'm not a huge fan of the TV's that take up half of your room.

These tv's involve a little more care than the old standard type of square tv's.
Make sure you purchase a warranty plan on your TV. We have used ours once.

If you get a plasma TV then don't leave it paused on one screen for a long period of time. You will get what is called "ghosting". The image will embed into the screen somehow. But don't worry too much, we pause our TV sometimes and have not had that problem yet.

Regarding LCD TV's they are typically a little thicker and heavier than the Plasma, but still have great picture quality. I think the only concern I had ever heard about is that sometimes the pixels go out in spots.

I'm not really sure which will last longer.
Our Panasonic was at the right price for us, but I would not recommend them since we have had problems with the TV blacking out at random times. The screen will go black for a split second. This usually happens when we have the TV on too much in one day.

You can read reviews on the different models on the Circuit City and Best Buy and other electronic websites before you purchase!!
