I don't know how much the HE detergents are because I am currently using a laundromat, ugh.. but you can make your own detergent for SO CHEAP that you can use in HE front-loaders. It's what I use now, but I don't remember the "recipe" because I made a bucket of it almost a year ago and still haven't run out. lol.

You can look it up easily enough though. It's made with Fels Naptha soap.

I use Seventh Generation. I only use half a cap and it works great.

Edited to add: It is made for HE washers.

I don't personally own a front loader right now, but we had them when we lived in Europe and we have many family members that have them. As soon as my washer craps out, I'm getting one. LOL! They just do SUCH a better job!

I would use the HE detergents...they are formulated for the front loaders specifically to be used with less water, suds less etc The excess suds esp, from regular laundry detergents, can cause problems in front loaders. Using a smaller amt of regular detergent does not alleviate the problem. It just wouldn't be worth it IMO...just not something I would do! To each their own!
