Does anyone actually use this in their HE or front-loading washers? I just got my new washer yesterday and I went ahead and bought the HE Tide since it cost the same as regular at Wal-mart. I am mostly bummed because I have a huge box of powder detergent, which I'm not going to use. Just wondering what everyone else thought about the high efficiency stuff.

I have a front loader and use the HE detergent. You use less than the bottle says and the clothes come out clean, thus using less detergent and spending less money! I just gave my 2 bottles of regular detergent to my mother.

I do use the HE detergent. My sister has shown me that she uses regular liquid detergent and it takes a very small amount, like 1 or 2 tablespoons I think, depending on load size and she says her clothes comes out great! (she has 2 boys and a husband to do laundry for, and they have been remodeling their house, so I am sure she has some really grubby clothes). I am thinking of trying it but I haven't yet.

go ahead and use up the old stuff.. but cut your quantity down by at least half. When I first got my HE I used "regular" detergent for a full load I use up to the 1st line.. sometimes even less depending on my load size. I now buy the HE when ever possible.. but sometimes I am in a pinch and the "regular" is on sale for soooo much cheaper. Luckily, now that these washers are more popular the HE detergent is easier to find, and it is often on sale as well... so I don't need to buy something else.

I use regular detergent. On a full load I use half up to the 1st line. Otherwise, I use much less. I love that I buy detergent soo infrequently.

I love my HE machine - It was expensive and I have always Been afraid to use anything but HE -
I know i hear you say its ok , and I bet it is ...
But knowing my luck , I will use regular and the machine will need to be fixed and DH will Get PO'd and think it was because I was Using non HE
He was all worried when we got a sample of detergent in the mail ....

He said , "You aren't gonna use this are you??"
When we bought the machines - The sales guy gave us this Huge pitch about only using HE for the best results.
PLUS Dh Didn't Even want the expensive things and He doesn't get why Its so cool that I can Wash 1 HUGE washload instead of 3 littler ones.
Men.

Oh, this is so me! Got the sales pitch and everything. Except my DH was all for getting the HE washer. The detergent I had was powder, and I decided not to use it. I can see how that would clog up the dispenser. Thanks for the tips!

I use regular detergent myself - just a small amount. I will mention one thing. I got my HE washer back in April (which I love it) but it broke down about a week ago. Had this little code that said to call a tech in. I about had a heartattack and was secretly blaming myself because of my use of the wrong detergent.

Well as it turns out (my husband went online and we learned this) my HE washer as a filter that needs to be cleaned out every few months! Yes it said this in the instruction manual but we all know that real women don't read instructions! Anyway, I cleaned it out and it's running fine now. It looks like some sort of paper receipt clogged it up real tight. I had never heard of a washing machine having a filter before.

HE detergent comes in powder form as well.. so I am having a hard time understanding how it would clog up the dispenser.
