Our toaster - a GE wide slot with bagel option - is slowly biting the dust. I'm looking for another one. Any recommendations? We use the toaster almost every day. I do toast bagels and English muffins frequently but I'm never seen the benefit of the bagel option so that's not a 'must have feature'. The toaster I have now is white plastic which I would like NOT to get again. I prefer the new one to be metal or red and good looking. Oh and, I have never paid over $20 for a toaster. I'm baffled by the high priced ones out there. What makes a toaster worth $60 to over $100 anyway? All it has to do is toast bread. It isn't like they are inventing new technology.

I love mine!!! It is a combination Microwave and toaster so, yeah, it cost a bit more. But it is great. It is a Kenmore.

To prove your point, I did buy a high-priced toaster. It was a pretty copper Russell Hobbs toaster, retailing for $89.99. Many places were actually selling it for that price. I got it through Smart Bargains for $24.99. However, a few months down the pike, it started burning our toast and muffins. So we tried different settings with no luck - overdone or underdone. We tried to contact the mfr. They had been sold to Salton. Reached Salton and got the runaround. There was a 1 year warranty, but to use it, I'd have to package it up, send it back, and THEY would decide to repair or replace it, but warned me based on reports they would probably send me a voucher for another one of their products. Plus, they could take up to 8 weeks to make a decision. Meanwhile, I'd be without something I used every day. When I told them that wouldn't work, they said, well, any action on it is at their discretion. Needless to say, I'm in the market for another one.

I'd be even madder if I did pay retail!

Ours was a cheapy one from Walmart we bought when we first got married (like $8 or something uber cheaptastic). It has bit the dust. The lever thing wont' stay down, so I have to wedge it down with the lid of my George Foreman. And then it doesn't really toast - it just dries it out until it tastes like it's just been sitting out on the counter for 2 weeks and then I took a blowtorch to it to make it almost black. So we need another one. Personally, I won't spend an arm and a leg on it. I'll probably just get a mid-range one for like $15 or so. Toast is toast. (As long as it's toasted correctly.)
