To prove your point, I did buy a high-priced toaster. It was a pretty copper Russell Hobbs toaster, retailing for $89.99. Many places were actually selling it for that price. I got it through Smart Bargains for $24.99. However, a few months down the pike, it started burning our toast and muffins. So we tried different settings with no luck - overdone or underdone. We tried to contact the mfr. They had been sold to Salton. Reached Salton and got the runaround. There was a 1 year warranty, but to use it, I'd have to package it up, send it back, and THEY would decide to repair or replace it, but warned me based on reports they would probably send me a voucher for another one of their products. Plus, they could take up to 8 weeks to make a decision. Meanwhile, I'd be without something I used every day. When I told them that wouldn't work, they said, well, any action on it is at their discretion. Needless to say, I'm in the market for another one.
I'd be even madder if I did pay retail!
