I'm in need of new makeup. After my skin started to get irritated from touching it with makeup, I did a little google and found this:
~Most creams and make up removers can be used for up to two years. I mean, all the ones I had were like that. But some can last only 1 year.
~Mascara can last up to three months - you will realize it because it gets harder to use (the fluid is less fluid) and can cause irritated eyes.
~Anything which is a liquid foundation can reach up to 6 months. Powders last somewhat longer.
~Lipstick - in between one and two years but never more. So stop collecting and start throwing.
~Lip and Eye Liners - about a year again.
~Natural cosmetics are better but they last less. Makes sense, right?
~Sun tanning lotions? Get rid of them after having used them this summer, even if you haven't finished them. The heat and the fact that they were opened will make them bad by next year. No point in wasting space with keeping them.
~I never keep creams or lotions that have changed their aspect because of the heat - some can separate into two, like yogurt does when it goes bad. Never keep those!
~I also suggest buying smaller quantities in the first place: having more of different kinds is better than having one large one that you will never finish. This goes especially for make-up products.
~To summarize, everything goes bad in about a year. But that's okay. We need to shop anyway to keep in touch with the new season or with our new haircut and hair color.
I haven't bought new makeup in 4 1/2 YEARS! Yep, I've been using the same stuff this whole time. Now, granted, I use clean sponges to put on my foundation, but that's it. The rest is stuff I bought right before I got married (just celebrated 4 years in July); no wonder it's making my face itch and break out the second I put it on. The thing that gets me is that the only way anyone could use all of what they put in those bottles/containers is if we all did a Mimi face (from Drew Carey show) and reapplied 6 times a day. Honestly - you'd think the makeup companies would do it the other way around - that they would have smaller quantities available so you would have to replenish often. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for good quality makeup. I don't have the money to just buy random products to see if they're good. I'd rather spend more on a good quality product than throw money out on crappy ones. I have been using Clinique products to this point, as they were the ones that matched my skin tone originally. I am a little overwhelmed at matching my foundation tone on my own; my MIL suggested I take my current foundation with me to the drugstore and match it to an Almay foundation. She said they're a good brand and are supposed to be less caustic with chemicals than some others (?). Anyway, anyone have any tips on this? I'm totally lost and tired of my face hating me for making it look good.
