I was thinking of getting ds an ipod shuffle for his birthday. Is $75 a good price for one?

That's about the standard price for them. I don't think I've seen them much cheaper. I got DH one for his birthday in February and it was $79. I ordered it direct from apple and they engraved the back for free.

I very rarely see any iPod product on sale. Right now Amazon has them listed at about $78, plus you get free shipping and $5 in downloads as a special promotion:
Amazon.com: Apple 1 GB iPod shuffle Purple (3rd Generation): Electronics

I don't recommend the Shuffle. It is hard to load and fustrating to play. If you're going to buy an iPod, get one with a display (the Nano) so she can see her playlist. Or, if you're going with an MP3 player that doesn't have a display because you want something cheap, get something other than an iPod.
