My poor dd always has the driest behind! She is constantly scratching and bleeding from it. I've put many of my lotion free samples on her and some seem to work OK but wondered what everyone else does and if anyone has had this problem-is it due to something else? I just assume its from the dry house since it's only when I turn on the heat that she starts up.

Oh Gosh! I have extremely dry skin! I use Palmer Coco Butter. I have tried everything!! That is the only thing that seems to work! Are you sure your little one doesn't have eczema (not sure the spelling!)? My daughter has it. She has dry patches. Anyhow, the doctor prescribed her with some lotion. Really helps. The doctor was saying that anything can set it off, a change in the climate, fabric softener, lotions, bubble bath, other's perfumes or lotions (if they hold or touch her). Anyhow, might be something to check into.

Call the ped. or show next time you're in. DD's ped recommended Ceravase - it's about $10, but the bottle is large - he said Walgreens is the only one who has it. It's nice, and works in some cases, but didn't stop dd's rash completely, so we had to move to a prescription hydrocortizone lotion which does work. I only use it when it flares up.

Other than that, I really like the Norwegian line of Neutrogena. It's much heavier, but it melts into the skin. I use both the hand and foot ones and try to get dh to use them because his hands crack.

Dry skin season is starting for my DD, too. Why do I forget that this happens to her every winter?!?!? I use the multi-layered approach. I put bath oil in her water - which is expensive and hard to find but sooooo worth it. I moisturize her as soon as she gets out of the tub. I make sure any moisturizer I let her use does NOT contain glycerine or alcohol. I'll even rub her down with petroleum jelly when it gets bad - especially on her cheeks when she is outside. She carries around a full compliment of lip moisturizer and hand creams whereever she goes - even to school. I make her load up on juices and water, too.

I would definately have her checked out to see if she has eczema or something. My niece has it and she was told by the dr to use cetaphil soap and moisturizing cream. It is more expensive but it is the only thing that has worked. She was also told that regular soaps and bath bubbles, bath gels would dry her skin out even worse.

Eucerin, PLUS Intense Repair Lotion. Recommended by our pediatrician and works wonders!!

I would also recommend no bubble bath (if you use it) and using baby wash with moisturizers. I use Johnson & Johnson Bedtime Moisture Wash.
