I bought the Muzzy Spanish program when my son was between Kindergarden and First Grade. He loved watching the show, and the Spanish came out of him in interesting ways. Shortly after he started watching, we were playing Yahtzee (a great game for kids learning to add, and good again when learning to multiply), he got a bad roll, and shouted out "No me gusta eso!" (I don't like that!) We started using a lot of Spanish, like tengo hambre, tengo sed, tengo frio (I'm hungry, I'm thirsty, I'm cold). I took 3 years of Spanish in high school, so when he watched, I turned on the Spanish subtitles so I could catch the words in Spanish on the screen and relate it to the spoken words. So I learned along with him. It was great, and all they said it would be. However, he eventually got tired of it. I enrolled him in a Spanish camp at the Berlitz Language School nearby, which was Spanish immersion, and he did great. He never became fluent, and he/we were not obsessive about it, but I think it could happen with more interest/some pushing/or just more opportunity.
But I got the program out again a few days ago to start my 3-1/2 year old on it, and after the first time she watched it, she was saying "Buenos Dias!" We'll see how it goes with her.
So, I would say, I think the program is great, and although expensive, it was worth it. Does my kid speak fluent Spanish now? No. But he, interestingly, speaks unaccented Spanish when he does use it, and since it's there, we'll continue building on it in the coming years when the interest and opportunity arises.
I'm getting the French one for him for Christmas, because he wants to be able to understand what the French-Canadian players are saying about him when he makes it to the NHL (lol). Hey, how can you not support that kind of interest!
Good luck!
btw, they do have a free shipping thing going right now
