Hi,

DS just had his bday party and got 2 different Thomas train sets. He is 2 yrs old and I know these sets are for 3+, but as you can see, his bday and Christmas are very close and we normally get him toys that he will be able to play with later in the year.

For those of you who have them, what type of Thomas set do you prefer? I thought I wanted the Take Along set, but he also got on of the new Trackmaster sets and it seems nice also. Which set do you prefer? I need to decide which set to go with so I can finish my Christmas shopping. (we don't have alot of room to store these so I also would like the set that is easier to store. DH is going to make a small table that can slide under his toddler bed)

TIA

Hi! My son is in LOVE with trains and we have a ton of the wooden track. I am not familiar with the Trackmaster set, though, the Take alongs seem nice and also less expensive than the wooden track that we own.

My son spends hours playing with his wooden train set. We bought him a train table (not Thomas brand) but the Imaginarim brand. The Imaginarim sets fit right in with the Thomas wood tracks but are less expensive. I actually feel that the Imaginarim train table is of better quality than the Thomas train table.

Sorry to talk about yet another Thomas the train product, but we are quite fond of of what we have. It has been the best toy purchase we have made so far because my 2 year old plays with it so much!!!

I had considered the wooden set also, but decided to stay with what seems like a less expensive option. They play with the wooden set at Books a Million and love it!

I actually recommend the tracmaster set. Ds has all diffrent Thomas sets, he has been a Thomas fan since he could crawl. We started with the Wooden set, then we moved on to the Take along and the Blue (Giant) track set. A few months ago he had gotten a cash gift and I took him to Walmart to buy another set and all they have now is Trackmaster. I like teh nice big tracks, and the trains run on batteries. The set itself comes with some adapter tracks, and you can combine the blue track with the brown trackmaster tracks. He prefers to play with the blue or the brown tracks above the wooden and the takealong tracks.

We started with the wooden set when my son was two. We also have the take along, the blue set, lego Thomas and my son is getting the Trackmaster for Christmas. As a two year old boy, I would recommend the wooden set. My son did not start liking all the batterie operated stuff untill he was about three. He just wanted to push his trains. The take along stuff is fun, but it is hard to put together and falls apart easily, depending on the set you have. The trackmaster, he may love now, if they are pushable w/o being on, but I promise he will grow into it all if he is a train lover. PM me if you have questions, my son is four, so I might have some insight if you need it. Good luck and happy shopping.

My girls have a table & wooden set. I scored it at a yard sale for $50. It included the table, tracks, bridge and carry case for the tracks. We had 2 Thomas trains that I got for free. I purchased a circus train for them also. They play with the table every day.

We bought a plastic set from Walmart and my hubby made me take it back. It was so cheap and the peices fell apart.
