What is in them? I scrubbed and scrubbed dd's little tike table full of crafty stuff with method, not to come clean, then I thought, DUH, use a magic eraser and it was nothing and it came off!
They are sooo good, but what is in them?
I also then cleaned my tub with it, good for that too. I think I had the generic bed bath and beyond brand, and it seemed to crumble...are the "real" ones better?

I don't have a problem with mine crumbling. Probably depends on what surface you're using it on though. I've only used the Mr Clean Magic Erasers, not any alternate brands.
You can go to the Magic Eraser site for more information on what is in them, or look on the packaging of the type you bought (or go to the website).

Do not laugh, but, I used one to get a temporary tattoo off of my dd and it gave her a chemical burn! Oh, it got the tattoo off, but I would highly recommend NOT doing this!

Right...well, it's a cleaning product, not meant to be used on skin. Kwim?

I use the real ones and they crumble too. I used one on my face when I colored my hair one time and it was like a bad carpet burn and it hurt bad!

Okay, didn't you all get the email that went around about the chemical burns they leave? Small children were being given to them by their parents to clean the walls they colored, and were getting severe burns. A PSA email was circulated soon after. I thought everyone got one!

There were a few going around for a while...one that said that they were being outlawed in Canada due to formaldehyde. And another saying that they were dangerous to children because a child had gotten 'burned' due to rubbing it on his face. To me, it's a cleaning product. It's too bad that people have gotten skin burns from them - but it is, what it is...a cleaning product. Just like with any other cleaning product, you should exercise caution when using it in ways other than it was intended. JMO

Yes, they are full of chemicals and not to be meant for skin, or to be used by children.
That being said, I love those things. They do crumble, because the "sponge" is made up of the chemical and it disintegrates as you use it. What I've done to extend the life is to cut it up. That way only the part i'm using gets wet and the rest can stay good for another day.
A great use for them I've found is cleaning the bathtub. Ours was all gray when we moved in - I didn't realize how dirty it was until I started cleaning it with a magic eraser. I've also used it on permanent marker on the walls. It takes the paint off a bit though.

I only use those now to clean my tub. Nothing else works as great as these things do. And my tub is HORRIBLE, the previous owners used very harsh things to clean it. There is no finish left on it, and its full of deep scratches. The ONLY thing that cleans it is a magic eraser. And when I'm done, there is nothing left to the eraser.
