I was wondering if anyone has compared ground coffee to whole bean coffee, grinding yourself. Usually if you do something your self is cheaper but i was not sure. We drink coffee every day so I was trying to compare. thanks

I actually tried it out this month - I bought the Starbucks whole bean coffee and ground it myself - the ground quantity is lesser when compared to buying ground coffee(6.99 for 400gms)

However, I am moving to whole bean for I get a 2.5lb of Starbucks french roast for 18.99 at Costco.

I prefer whole bean coffee! but I do think it costs more (unless you get foldgers or something like that)

I like to enjoy a cup of coffee and to me it tastes better when I get whole bean a grind it myslef!!

Grinding it is the best way to go IMO. ALSO IMO, you don't need to use as much fresh ground coffee as the already gound...The fresh ground is a little stronger, I think. Also, I like to drink flavored coffees and buy them in "bean form" and the flavoring seems better in the fresh ground.

Does it defeat the purpose if you grind the beans the night before? We're usually in such a rush in the morning, so I set up the coffee pot to start itself in the morning. I've used preground coffee, thinking if I were to grind beans, they would lose all their value overnight.
