My mom just bought dh and I a GPS system that we can take with us on our travels. Mainly for me to use this summer while the boys and I make our way north.

Anyway, she got a SWEET deal on a GARMIN Nuvi 360 widescreen at Amazon.com with free shipping. She used my gift card for $60 and paid only $191.00 for it

Do any of you have one?
Do you like it?
What don't you like?
Was it worth having in the car?

Yes, we have a Garmin, but it is a hand held one. Dh likes gadgets so I got him one for Father's Day last year. We had purchased the same model for my Dad for his birthday and dh loved it then. We use it for long trips mostly. He loves it. Can't think of what he doesn't like about it. Personally, I think it is silly, but he likes to know how many more miles to our destination, what are at exits, etc. But, it does come in handy on unknown routes. Ours was right around $100, I think. We take it on hikes, too.

We have one and we bought one for my in-laws. We use ours when we are on vacation. It works great for us.

We have a handheld and DH has one for the boat. He loves Garmin over the others!

That is the same one that we have and we love it! My dh is also a gadget person and just had to have one. So he got one for Christmas. I use it more then he does. I love how you can download your roadtrip on a memory card and plug it into the GPS and you have your whole trip right there turn by turn.

We are also going to use it when going Geocaching. Geocaching - The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site

We were shopping for the Nuvi, but ultimately went with a TomTom. I loved several things about the Garmin one though. You can select a different vehicle to mark the map. That would make trips fun changing it from a sports car to the monster truck. I also really liked how the food is listed by cuisine type when you look up the POI. The TomTom just lists in order of proximity. I did, however, find it very useful that it listed the phone numbers for the restaurants. We made a trip from NC to MN and then down to Co all in about 5 days. I got very proficient with the GPS. It was so nice to try and find a hotel. I simply looked for the ones close off the highway and then got the phone number and called to check on rates. It worked great! Not quite as nice as being able to look at photos online.
All-in-all, I love it! It is awesome when you go around large towns and the raod splits several times. It makes for a less stressful drive because instead of trying to read road signs and watch all lanes of traffic around you, you can just turn up the volume and let it tell you to "keep right, or keep left".
My favorite feature is how it recalculates if you miss the turn.

do you have a monthly fee for these? I would love one for driving all over town (I get lost too easy I think I am directionally challenged~ funny considering I grew up with a father who designs roads and bridges for a living)

No there is no monthly fee. Just plug it in, put in the address and it calculates it all for you!
