Are you afraid of buying toys or other items for your little ones due to the lead recalls?

I definitely am buying less. First, I don't really need to buy a lot because Diva is such a tomboy, she likes to play with her older brother's old toys. But I do find myself evaluating paint and origin of toys I consider in the stores. It's so sad that buying from a well known, reputable company, such as Fisher Price or Disney Stores doesn't ensure you bring home lead-free items. Until consumers demand ALL imports be tested, especially from China, by these companies, these darn recalls will continue. I'm so dismayed about the large number of Disney recalls, considering the publicity they and Fisher Price went through in this past year about lead. Don't they care about their tiny customers who have no voice but have growing systems? They are definitely losing my loyalty.

Most of the toys that have been recalled are what I consider plastic "junk toys," most were destributed from dollar store type stores and I don't buy things like that anyway b/c I hate clutter. I've always loved the wooden American made toys, yes they are more expensive but last longer. I haven't bought really any toys in over a year but it wasn't b/c of recalls it was b/c we already had so much we don't need anymore for a few years.

Actually, while a lot ARE the dollar-type toys, which I avoid like the plague, a lot have been, as mentioned, from name brands, like Fisher Price and Disney. That is a huge source of disappointment. And places like Target and ToysRUs said they were going to do something about it, but nothing has really happened, nor is what they have done very wide. I am so disappointed by their slow reactions.

I have tried to stop buying new toys for the cost. I have traditionally bought toys from garage sales/consignment, etc. I have stopped doing that as much because of hte recalls!

Although, I have bought some things that I KNOW were recalled and never let my kids play with them. Specifically for the purpose of returning them and getting a credit!

Not really. I am still buying.... I signed up for the CPSC recall emails, so I know when something has been recalled. I figured that is the best I can do. Almost all toys are made in China, so there isn't much of an option.

Yes. This was part of the reason I stopped buying so many toys. I had two bags of recalled toys of which we never received a dime of rebate. I never received the sticker to mail them back.

We don't NEED so many. I bought most of mine from yardsales where it is easy to pile them up for $1 each. The playroom was too congested.

I have stopped buying any toys from dollar stores, and vending machines. I only have one child that is into toys, and I don't like to buy her many toys anyway. I debate a lot about buying toys not made here, but I don't have a lot of money to spend on toys.
