I have heard and read that the top load washers are really energy efficient where they don't use as much water and the dryers don't take as long for drying.

What type do you have?

I have front loading. I like it cause its easier and I can have stuff on top of my washer and not have to move it when I do laundry.

The dryer seems to dry faster in my opinon. It has a moisture sensor so It gets everything really dry

We have a top loader washer. I would have preferred a front loader, but whe did not have the extra money when we needed the washer/dryer. So we had to go with the top loader.

I have a top load washer, when we bought it we looked at front loaders but they all were too wide to fit in the spot we needed it to fit in.

We have the front loader for the past 3 years and love it. I am not sure about the drying time, though.

I have a top loader right now but I want a front loader. When we moved last year, my inlaws gave us a brand new set that they had in their basement. So we'll use these for the time being. We used our front loader in Europe when we lived there and it totally converted me. They use less soap, water, clean the clothes better etc I don't know about the dryers necessarily being better, I think the clothing is spun out so much better and so much more water is removed.

I used to own one of the original Maytag front loaders. It came with our current house. It worked well, until it broke, of course. When I needed to replace it I searched everything available, read all the reviews, and ended up with a top-loader from Sears.

Why?

Because we have well water. In the winter especially that water is extremely cold. Even cold water, liquid detergent won't dissolve in water that is nearly freezing. It doesn't make sense to do all my winter washing in 'hot' water. The top loader from Sears was the only high-efficiency washer I could find that had a 'warm' feature. It brings the cold water up to the appropriate temperature for dissolving the detergent but no higher. This feature won't be available on future washers because all manufacturers will need to adhere to strict efficiency standards. I hope this washer lasts a long time because otherwise I'll have to install a pre-heater in my water line to the laundry room.

The high-efficiency top loader I have works just as well, if not better, than my front loader at removing excess water. My clothes are nearly dry putting them in the dryer. Yes, I still use a dryer.

Oh, and I should add ... another reason I switched to a top loader is because bending over to load and unload all those clothes was killing my back! We elevated the dryer but the washer was just too low. A top loader is just easier.

I have a front loader and I love it. We did look at the HE top loaders but they were $300-$400 more expensive than the washer we ended up buying.

Ours has a warm cycle, as well as a tap, cold, hot and boiling hot cycle (for diapers). I hope our washer lasts a long time too, I usually use warm water when washing my kids' clothes.

Mine are now front loaders - and Im not crazy about them. I dont see any difference in wash time, electricity bills, drying time, etc. Actually the wash cycle is longer than my top loader was - they say its more efficient because it uses less water and spins out more water than the top loaders. Ok - but it takes twice as long to do all this so Im not seeing where this is any cheaper. And the dryer - every time I open the door stuff falls out - which is very annoying. I dont see that it dries any faster than the top loader either. Capacity wise, the machines are a little bigger. Would I buy them again - probably not! Not worth the extra cost.
