They say that most of our kids are dehydrated, and a hydrated brain is one that learns better. I have always pushed my son to keep a bottle of water at his desk at school.

We have R/O water, but need to have the company come out to do its annual sanitation process. We can change the filters ourself, but they have to do the sanitizing. Problem is, whenever they come out, it ends up costing us $200-$300 because they always find an issue.

So, I bought one of those filtered pitchers. Because it seemed to remove more substances, I bought the Pur brand. What is cool is that one of their options is to buy a pitcher that lets you add flavoring as you pour. I've had a couple of problems w/the flavoring, but I'm optimistic that I'll get it right.

I have to say, since doing the flavored water, which is just a hint of the flavoring, and you can choose the flavor, my kids drink so much more! We aren't a soda home anyway, but they even ask for this over juice many times, so they are getting less sugar!

Pur also has a filter for your tap, too, and you can add flavor there if you wish. With both, you have the option of going non-flavored, like for cooking. You have to push a button to get it to tap into the flavor bottle.

Target has this pitcher and the replacement filters on sale this week. In AZ we always have to keep hydrated, so I always have bottled water to head out the door with. But try something like this and you'll be drinking more, improving your hair, skin, memory, thinking processes, temper and organ function. Hydration also helps with fatigue.

Good old water is fine, but I always question my city's water, as I don't trust it from experience. But anything I can do to get the kids in the habit of drinking the water they need is welcome.

We have a Brita filtered pitcher, and I have noticed that DD drinks water from it, but not the tap. She used to say that she didn't like water. We drink alot of diluted kool aid around here. :-)

We have a Brita pitcher too, that stays filled up in the fridge. We drink alot of water (especially lately with the weather heating up) and it's becoming harder to keep it filled - since no one can mention to me when they take the last glassfull from it....

I've had this and one other Brita for the past 3 yrs. or so, but I've heard of the Pur brand with flavor option. I've wondered what others thought of those, and what the price difference would be as far as filters, etc.

Thanks for mentioning this. I'll have to look into this again.

ETA: It's funny you mention having a water bottle in hand each time you leave the house, because that's exactly how it is at my house! It's become a habit, just like grabbing my purse! lol

I gave up on my flavor options one. I REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY wanted peach water... but it's like the flavoring just squirts into the edge and gets 'stuck' there,, it doesn't seem to wanna go into my water

suggestions?

We have a culligan pitcher.

To get the boys to drink more water, I bought them some cool-looking water bottles from walmart.

Ha! I had the same problem w/the peach! The raspberry was fine, but my first peach got stuck. I punched a hole in it, cut off the spout to it, to no avail. And squeezing it into the cup didn't work well, either. However, the second bottle of peach in the pack was put in yesterday and worked fine. It seems stronger than the raspberry, so I use less (it's so concentrated that it's pretty bitter straight). It also says to run it under warm water if it gets stuck. I just dunk it into the water.

Walgreens sold the 2 pack for $12.99. Target sells the 2pack for $9.49, and the 2 pack of filters is on sale for $22 something.
