I have one and use it HEAVILY during hunting season. All our meat gets FoodSaved. I also use it when I buy whole pork loins, I cut them up into chops, and FoodSave 4 chops at a time - what DH and I usually eat (he gets two, I eat one for dinner and one for lunch the next day).

I have the actual brand one, lemme find a pic. It's a "higher" end on, but it was worth it to us with the amount we use it at one time. The hold and seal ones were too much of a pain. This one is automatic, just put the bag in, flip the lever and push the button. If I process a deer, I'm packing anywhere from 50-100lbs in one sitting into 1lb portion bags. That's a lot of FoodSaving!

Mine looks like this (or is this, dunno): Amazon.com: FoodSaver V2440 Advanced Design: Home & Garden

I use the brand name rolls because I've used gift cards to buy them, but want to try the enormous ones off ebay. I plan to save the cores from the brand ones because the one we have has the roll storage in it, which is really handy when I'm trying to make 100 bags in one sitting (I seal, pull, cut, seal, pull, cut, etc).

Very occasionally, like every 50 bags or so, it doesn't make a complete seal the first time, but you can tell, and just have to stop and reseal it. I've not had problems.

I have a seal a meal. I use it or two times per month. However it died right at three months old. I called the customer service and they replaced it for free (didn't even have to send the old one back). Mine is noisy and awkward and sometimes I just don't feel like messing with it, so I just split things (chicken and hamburger) into ziploc baggies then put those in a larger freezer bag. Honestly, either method keeps the meat well. Although I prefer to use the seal a meal for everything but chicken and hb.

We have one. We use it when we buy hamburger in bulk. I make burgers and seal them in meal size servings. The only irritating part is that you can't seal the hamburgers until they are frozen because the juices will suck into the Foodsaver machine. Sometimes, I have wrapped the burgers in Saran Wrap and then sealed them. It works.

I also love the canisters. I have walnuts in one and brown sugar in the other. The sugar stays soft and the nuts stay fresh.

I have also bought cheese in bulk and sealed 8 oz. portions. I keeps better in the fridge.

I always look for the Foodsaver bags and rolls on sale or use gift cards to get it.

Oh, on the one I have it has "wet" and "dry" settings - so it automatically shuts off once the juices of whatever seal into it. It has a drip tray to catch stray juices. I know the one we borrowed before was a pain in the heinie when it came to trying to pack meat.

I even used it to pack up homemade spaghetti sauce last year, using the wet setting. It worked great! IT was great to thaw out - since it was in a bag, I froze it flat, and just popped it in hot water to thaw (no meat in the sauce, just veg and spices).

Also, I got mine at Sams Club, on sale.

I use my foodsaver a lot. When I dehydrate foods, I seal them with the foodsaver to keep the moisture out.

It's also great for freezing corn on the cob.

And I use it to make freezer meals for DS: I'll make platefulls of leftovers (tonight was chicken, broccoli and potatoes. I put the food on freezer-safe (corelle) plates, and seal them, and stack them in the freezer. It comes in handy when we have a babysitter, or are eating things DS doesn't like.

My stepmom loves hers. I have a brand new one that I've never opened. Just seems like such a hassle to use.

We got ours as a wedding gift and love it! Especially the canisters--they keep fruit for so long, we waste so much less than we used to. I've kept strawberries for up to 2 weeks--fresh berries!

And it takes a little longer than using regular zipper bags, but I will always take the time to put all my big meat purchases in foodsaver bags, because it just keeps so much better. I threw away a pack of pork chops a couple months ago that were freezer burned in a zipper bag--they got shoved to the back of the freezer and the seal popped, money down the drain, I was bummed, and promised myself to always use my foodsaver!

The only problem we've ever had is when we bought the walmart brand rolls of bags to try and they didn't seal well at all, but we get the big box of foodsaver brand at sam's and it's the best deal we've found and no sealing problems.
