The kids' pediatrician recommended Delsym cough for us. It did seem to work for awhile (very little has ever worked on my cough, esp. as a kid). However, I don't know if they changed the formula or what, but it's now as ineffective as Robitussin is for us. We've tried others. Even Tylenol w/codeine, which my Dr. gave me before, doesn't work. There's a new RX one he gave me, which also has codeine, which is helping, but the codeine makes me a bit nauseous.

We like the Delsym, but have also had great luck with the Vicks plug in vaporizer. It really seems to add moisture to the air which helps with their throats getting dry while they sleep.

IMO, no OTC cough medicines work...unfortunately.

I use honey! It works wonders.

Our docter always Stresses that We take an OTC med with DM -

I Think its Usually Robitussion DM that I Buy - I Know there are others Too.


Those always Work for us for a Really bad Cough.
We also Rub vicks on their chests and Plug in a sudacare vapors.

Dextromethoraphan is the only OTC cough ingredient...with Delsym they just make it long-acting. If codeine is making you nauseous next time ask your Dr. for Tussionex (it is Rx). It is a "synthetic" codeine so less irritating to the stomach and lasts for 12 hours.

My Dr. swears by the Delsym. It does really quiet a cough for me even when I have sever bronchitis.

Try rubbing Vicks VapoRub on the soles of the feet. I asked around when I was dealing with a horrible cough & was desperate. I was skeptical to do so, especially after reading about it on Snopes:

but it really did help.
