A firm mattress doesn't have to feel like sleeping on concrete. They can add lots of cushie padding to a firm mattress. A mattresses' firmness typically has to do with how tightly the springs are strung, not the kind or amount of padding on top.

The other think great about the Sleep Number bed is that if one person turns in bed, the other person doesn't usually feel it, because of the air chambers being separate (we have a King). DH basically flips, like jumps, when he turns over (how does he DO that??), and we used to have a full wave waterbed before DS was born. Sproingggggg! No thanks.

I think of it this way:

it's an investment for a good night's rest. If I didn't sleep every day I probably wouldn't think of it as an option, but because we do sleep every day and use the bed every day and are MISERABLE when we don't sleep and have aches and pains to prove it, this is the best alternative.

Believe me, I had the same arguments in my head as you did, but I was tired of having my mattresses lose shape and seeing that money go down the drain. With a sleep number, it adjusts with you. I'm telling you, you will not be disappointed...and you will sleep again!

We have a Simmons and it does the same thing. If I roll over my husband doesn't feel it and vice versa. I can jump into my side of the bed and he won't feel it. It is very nice especially when I get up in the middle of the night, it is nice to know I won't wake him up.
