Bed recommendations?

My husband and I have had a firm mattress from Denver Mattress for about 5 years now, and we really hate it! We have been waking up with back aches for the past couple of years. So, now we are shopping for a new bed. Price does matter... we don't want to spend a small fortune, but we do want to finally have a good night's sleep!
What kind of bed do you sleep on, and do you like it or hate it? Any recommendations? Thanks!!!

We have the "Heavenly Bed" from The Westin Hotel chain and we LOVE it. We shopped around but always came back to the heavenly bed! I LOVE MY BED!

I grew up on a Serta mattress and they aren't very expensive. I slept great. Right now we have a Simmons and we've had it for 4 years and LOVE it. It is actually not firm, but softer. My husband had back problems (being a paratrooper in the Army does that) and always had hard mattresses. We bought the soft one and he has not had back pain since. I read an article that said if you have back pain you should not buy a hard mattress.

A few years ago Hubby and I bought a memory foam mattress (like a Tempurpedic but a different brand). I loved it at first but now that it is older, I'm getting annoyed with it. Memory foam loses it's memory when it is compressed for a long period of time so now I feel like I'm sleeping in a rut.
Hubby travels a lot so he gets to sleep on a wide variety of mattresses. So far he likes the 'sleep number' kind the best. And that is the kind that is recommended for people like me who have arthritis. I think that is what we're getting next. Combine a sleep number bed with memory foam and I'd be in heaven.
I'll never go back to sleeping on an inner-spring mattress.

Select Comfort/Sleep Number...well worth it.
I have heard great things about the Westin hotel beds, too.

The Sleep Number Beds are GREAT!
Some days you want your bed a little cushy, some days firmer. This bed offers that option. Besides that, my dh likes his side one way, I like it another. Again, this bed allows you to both be happy. It seems like more money upfront than your average bed, but this bed is for life! All parts are covered under warranty for LIFE. And if you wait, like we did, we educated ourselves, waited for the sales and bought our's when it was 18 months, same as cash.

Sleep number, all the way. DH and I got ours when about 5 years ago and still love it. We've moved 3 times since then and it is so easy to move too. Very convenient. Very comfortable. We each get to sleep on the type of "mattress" we like. I like mine softer for my back, he likes his a little firmer.

Thanks for all your responses, everyone! It seems the Sleep Number is very popular. (and unfortunately expensive) My husband has always thought firm mattresses were the way to go, too. I will have to do some research on that, because with our firm mattress we have now, he wakes up feeling like he was hit by a semi-truck!

We have a sleep number as well that we are very happy with (I had posted a reply a couple days ago but I lost it when my computer froze up and just haven't had a chance to repost since then).
They can be expensive, but prices do differ somewhat depending on size and how cushy you want your pillowtop to be. We saved a bit of money not having to buy their foundation (we went from a soft side waterbed to a select comfort and just kept the foundation from the waterbed).

Choosing the right mattress for back support, good posture, and sleep comfort has a significant effect on back pain relief. Although many doctors have traditionally recommended a hard mattress (a firm mattress) to patients with back pain, a recent study conducted in Spain found that a medium-firm mattress may provide better back support and help alleviate more back pain than a firm mattress.
