My vacuum, actually, both of our vacuums are broken. They just don't have the wind power anymore. One is 5 years old and the other one is 1 year old.
I saw a demonstration for a 900 dollar vacuum yesterday. Seemed like it was nice, but how much should a person really spend on such a thing!?!?! I am desperately seeking one that will really last!

I am so frustrated! It seems like my Mom was able to keep a vacuum forever! Now, I can't keep one more than a year. They are all made of cheap plastic parts that don't hold up.

When I took my vacuum to the repair shop I even saw people bringing in their Dyson models. So, I know those really can't be great either.

I feel like I need the vacuum of all vacuums. I have two sets of stairs. Two dogs, two kids, wood floors, and carpet that does a bit of shedding as well. I can't keep up and neither can the vacuums I buy!

Is there anyone out there that has had GREAT success with a model???

We have a Hoover. I paid about $260. with a % off coupon at bed bath beyond. It was a consumer reports best buy about 3 years ago. I am pretty happy with it. I agree with you that they are not made as good as they used to. I have also had a Rainbow canister(they are kinda expensive) It cleaned really good, except when the reservoir that is filled with the dirty water would spill and stain my carpet!
